just wanted to share this with you guys, seems thats the server browser that we saw on the alpha(throught internet explorer) seems to be the final concept of the game servers.
Battlefield 3 PC won’t have in-game server browser, Battlelog is the main menu | PC Gamer
-
-
ALL OF MY MONEY.
-
This BF3 is turning into the biggest software suite known to man. So, in order to play BF3, we'll have to run a browser, Origin, and PunkBuster. Hopefully we only have to log into 3 different services and run 4 different updaters.
I now feel like a dirty hooker for pre-ordering this game. -
Why DICE, why?!
You have a chance to bring down crap of duty and you continue to screw things up, why?
Hopefully there will be a mod or something to bring the menu into the game though, alt tabbing is a pain in the neck and sometimes crashes games. If they just used a proven system like the server browser in TF2 or CS then all would go well and everyone would know what to do and be happy. -
Why would you pre-order it? Especially considering the pre-order price is never cheaper than if you actually wait a few months after they fix the game as they will more than likely release it in beta form just like they did with BC2, and just like EVERY other game that has been released recently. I think it's hilarious people think somehow DICE is different when DICE is just EA, nothing more.
-
The console version has ingame server browser. The PC version doesn't.
Something doesn't seem right... -
I personally upset by this. We need a boycott.
-
I don't understand why won't they implement it in the game itself...
-
HAHA! Too funny Rschauby. I promised myself I would never pre-order another game after the massive alpha bug that was Black Ops. Activision literally spat in my face with that one and I won't let another one of these companies ever do that to me again. It's become way too much of a money-milking thing with the COD series now. Really sad. Rschauby, maybe you should think about adopting my strategy? Lol.
As for BF3, the more I hear about the "strange" (for lack of better word) changes EA and maybe DICE are doing with this game, the more I reconsider purchasing the game. They're not going putting the game on Steam...they're forcing the player to download this stupid and unnecessary "Origin"...supposedly no local co-op play (both players need a copy of the game)...supposedly no split-screen local multi-player...and now no in-game server browser. Who is making the decisions at these meetings? Seriously, the things people want they're denying us. Is that really how they think it should be? No amount of graphics will make me cough up my money if they keep doing these things... Honestly, EA (or is it DICE) keep shooting themselves in the foot with these dumb changes. They really had a chance to utterly one-up Activision and the COD series with this game (even though both are great series in their own right). The more I hear the more I wonder... Oh boy... And If you're wondering or even care
, I'm not buying COD
again. BF3 is becoming "no" too.
EDIT: XX55XX, I think I'm with you on the boycott suggestion. Best way to speak is with that money these "companies" want so badly. -
Like that'll be effective, most people will end up buying it anyways like the sheeple they are.
-
Tying it in with a login scheme via a web browser is simply another way to tightening access to the game. It's a form of DRM.
Though, there are many apologists defending EA on nearly every message board I read. Right... Launching a game via a web browser. -
BF3 is going to come with more bloatware than a new Dell!
-
People say a boycott won't work and that people will buy it anyway. I'm willing to bet that a fairly large percentage of PC players will be on forums similar to this and will also be having the same views. It's not like we're the only ones who think this is BS here on notebookreview.
It seems we're a a tipping point here and everyone else who hears the news will probably be thinking the same. So unlike the console crowd who tend to just lap up anything they're given without question, I think we do have a fighting chance in boycotting the whole thing since as a community we're so interconnected.
Even though large companies treat us PC users like rubbish and think they can walk all over us they still want our money. If they didn't then they wouldn't bother releasing on PC. You might say thing about piracy but if we do go ahead to boycott this and manage to get a large crowd behind us then instead of losing out a little from piracy they get nothing at all, which is what they deserve IMO.
This has to stop some day so why not now? We need some form wide petition though in which we can get the word across. A viral site or something along the lines would do nicely (the MW3 site that redirected to BF3 was a nice example of a site that went viral quite quickly). Any ideas how we could get the word round?
I know I'm probably sounding like I'm copying a cheesy action film motivational speech but I'm just willing to try and put an end to crap that companies are giving us.
So... I solemnly promise that I will not buy (nor pirate) MW3 or BF3 with the intent to prolong the life of PC gaming and the PC community at large until/unless they patch it/fix it to be to the standard that we deserve.
PS: Both MW3 and BF3 will probably turn out like any other mainstream game. Think about what crytek promised us. Who cares if BF3 might have better graphics than crysis, at least crysis was an honest game.
TLDR: Don't pay for this rubbish, you're probably not gonna play it for more than a month or so anyway, is it really worth that much to you?
-
Amen, funky monk.
Signed. -
Yes.
I'll play way over 1 month. I love BF games, and I see inovation in BF3 in all senses. -
Well in my honest opinion I don't mind the web browser really, as long as I can get into the game fine and play *flame shield on* but its going to be really odd opening Origin then opening the browser then going into the game :/.
3 Tabs UUUGGHHH -
Well I congraulate you on your dedication but in the long run you're only going to make things worse for us all by going along with things.
I'll ask a question, can you honestly say that games are better/more respectable than they were in the golden age? -
Errr... Okay then?
I like BF3, and will buy it.
Can't answer that, I started PC gaming in '07
So, to sum it up, you're saying that you want people that like the game to NOT buy it because YOU don't like it? -
Not only is this NOT BF3 ( Bad Company 3 ) it is also coupled with a s.h.i.t show server broswer? Do these companies not undertand what PC gaming means to PC userbase?
Please DICE hire me. I promise I will not drive-into-the-ground your only chance to topple Activision in the FPS market by requiring users actually take a nade to the face before logging-in.
I'll stick with CSS and life. Cheers. -
i won't be boycotting since i already preordered the limited edition with freebies plus a copy of mass effect 2 for $52 on origin. I'm thinking of canceling it and getting a refund until they change this new DRM crap. I was very anxious for the release of the beta, now this has pissed me off, what a disappointment over DICE.
-
I feel you brother. This is a smack in the face to the PC gamer. This is going to be BC2 all over again ( notice; 3 months after relase before the game is remotley playable, all the while the hit registration is worse than a wet paper towel vs. Carl Weathers from Predator.)
-
Well said Monk. I'm 100% with you on that one.
See you're missing the point Phistachio. Don't let your "like" for things mask what you should be entitled to in these games. There are several other things EA (and/or DICE) are forcing you to have to 'accept' in this game. Things that should not really have been an issue if the customer truly came first. Below I listed some other changes they are making to this game and are forcing you to put up with. Hey you can buy what you want, no one can ever deny you that, but just think a little about what it is that you're spending that money on. You're getting less and less for it. Before you know it, they'll be selling us a blank disc for the same price
. I, for one, think that EA/DICE are shooting themselves in the foot with these unnecessary and dumb changes. I don't get why people just 'accept' these things like they accepted the ridiculous $15 COD DLC and the huge bug that was COD Black Ops PC. Count me out.
-
i remember the boycott who-hare for CoD MW2 for no dedicated servers, i remember reading hundreds of posts about there being no way in hell they would support that, and then two months later i read hundreds of posts from the same people either complaining about the gameplay or raving about it.....
will i buy it, yeap, you bet ya i will, if it sucks after purchase then ill will sit on my pc collecting dust, game looks awesome tbh. -
EA said BF3 not going to be on Steam due to the "restrictions" set on their games.
I wonder if this "browser" feature is one of them.
Battlefield 3 is not coming to Steam, but EA has a real reason -
No STEAM - Not a problem, since I have BC2 and C1/2 on Origin.
Origin - Already downloaded and always closed. Only open it to check out a serial key or something. If it gets mandatory, I wouldn't worry since I have enough RAM
No local co-op - Bothers me a bit... But in the end, who am I going to play with? With my 5 month old sister?
Split-screen local multiplayer - Doesn't bother me either.
No in-game server browser - This bothers me a lot actually. I really want to be able to choose the servers I want play on.
In the end, I'll be purchasing it for entertainment and fun. Not because it doesn't contain X or Y. -
I never said I dislike the battlefield series, there aren't that many game series which I truely dislike. I'm saying that I dislike what companies are doing with game series. If that means I have to miss out on one item in a series that will most likely carry on for another decade then so be it, they're all pretty much the same when it comes down to it so it's not like I'm missing out on much.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I am with you Phistachio! The in game server browser thing kinda sucks, but the game is gonna rock regardless.
-
Honestly it sounds like you are making reasons to not hate this game. Are you really that daft?
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Maybe your are really that Daft. I mean what the heck does it matter he wants the game you don't. Stop flaming the guy because he wants it, I want it too. So what if you are not happy other people are. Stop talking down to people or try to sway them to dislike something you guys don't like.
-
Indeed. At first, I wasn't sure about the game. But now, it's a total buy. It has everything that I like : stunning graphics, amazing animations, huge maps ( although count is low
), jets and coop.
As I said, it's just the game has all my requisites to be a must buy.
Yeah, well, maybe we can still get one in the end, in the open beta, if people complain enough? -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I agree, This might change when people complain about it in the Beta, and those are all the same reasons I am gonna get the game too! (the jets especially)
+ all of these things as well
http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/battlefield-3/1189271p1.html -
And regarding local coop, my buddies are going to purchase it too, but for PS3. And I have a PS3 too. So when they come over, they simply bring the game, and we play local co-op! Nothing of a big deal for me!
Yep, indeed! When I saw how much stuff is in the game, I was like WOW! -
The thing with this is that it's not a case of a simple choice that you make. Normally with these sorts of things I'd simply say "fine, you have your views, I have mine so we'll just agree to disagree", but it's not as simple as that. In making that choice to give in to companies like EA you are also affecting everyone else and ultimately yourself.
If you say "it's only one person, what difference will it make if I buy it?" then I've honestly lost faith in the PC crowd.
Also, this is about something much larger than just PC gaming, around the world our freedom is slowly being stripped away. When was the last time you could honestly say your life was completely private from the world?
Even though I have a facebook account, if anon does manage to pull its proposed plan off and take it down, I'm really not sure that I'll miss it. Maybe it would be a good thing? Wherever you are, you can't get round the truth that the world is at a tipping point right now. -
Oh come on. What are you 14? Is this quantum leap or something.. It is obvious by his post that he neither is a long time PC gamer and he doesn't know what he is talking about. Are you his doppelganger?
Yes the game has nice GFX, will it be a Bad company clone, of course. Will it have terrible hit registration, of course. Will it have a stand-alone server browser, of course. Will people be playing it a year from now, not so much. -
Well, I'm not a gamer, I'm just a casual, so...
Regarding freedom... We can't directly relate that to gaming. Yes, it LOOKS like the current situation. It's just people have been abusing too much ( hacks, etc ), therefore the gvt would like to have more security. Blame the hackers, not gamers or casuals or EA or THQ or Activision or DICE.
OpFacebook was confirmed as a fake anyway.
Oh and, when could I say that I was completely private? Never. I mean, even in pre-XX century, someone was ALWAYS watching you. Be that the political police or the king's guards hunting you. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
That is a slippery slope my friend. Freedom is the choice to do what you want Phistachio is expressing his freedom, and so am I. No one is giving in to EA I pre-ordered since you could first pre-order it before all these shenanigans and cancelled to get a better deal $45 bucks, I still want to keep my pre-order . Sure things might not be exactly how you would like them and the things that they are making changes to are honestly not that big of a deal. You may feel so and I respect your opinion.
I don't mind running Origins, I don't care about local Coop I don't like the fact the server browser is not inc. into the game, but hardly a deal breaker for me. -
Yep, this seals the deal. Have you EVEN played it?
I know what I'm talking about and I've been gaming for 5 years now.
Here, guys, listen to this, and you'll all be happy again
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZZ4gTjRxtA&feature=related -
Reading the comments about this battlelog thing, makes me think, EA has a bunch of hamsters furiously replying to the comments.
-
Origin only and Battlelog required for launching the game?
So what, i dont really care at all.
None of my games on Origin account actually requires being launched while logged into Origin anyways, and i own a lot of EA games on it.
And by the way Origin is much more stable than Steam, at least for me. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
IDK what to say to you... You are extremely hard headed and truly are daft I am a hardcore gamer and these things do not bother me. Calling me 14 just shows that you are petty and not mature at all. Maybe you should just stop and think about what you are saying. I don't care if it is a bad company clone I enjoyed BC2 and I will enjoy BF3. You are truly showing your ignorance, and I think you might be the first post I report on this site. Your omnipotence is a farce and you should really just stop. I am in no way, shape, or form his doppelganger. I just don't like to sit idly by while other attack people for something this petty. -
I get that Phistacio, but damn I see this more and more a Bad Company* clone more than anything. By that I mean it really is difficult to be a PC gamer and not feel left out or taken-aback.
I hope this game is good, but it appears more, and more, day by day, to be a well ported console port -- like they all are these days///////sigh///////// -
Yeah, I'm a pianist that totally works for EA.
Like, totally. -
So what? This isn't about your other games. BF3 will require Origin and web based server browser.
-
For installing the game with a digital copy, or downloading patches, expansions and dlc.
They dont need to force people to launch from Origin, since they already check you out once you og into Battlelog.
Dident even need Origin to launch the BF3 Alpha build once it was fully installed. -
I have no problems with Origin. But a server browser based on oustide applications away from the game is PURE DRM. Coat it, coax the story how you prefer, but it is, well what it is.
** developer #1: hey should we make a in-game browser?
*developer #2: yeah I think it would be very easy and worthwhile for PC users ( displace my cheesy-ness here)
*** DICE random Idiot #5: nah man, we will just make enough xbox copies and no one wil notice that we """cked the PC community.
PC gamer #39939838 : first day arrival of BF3: " this is not what i wanted" -
Well well, what do we have here?
Battlefield 3 Game Server Rental | Buy bf3 Server Hosting - Multiplay Gameservers
Cool! But 71 EURO FOR A 64 PLAYER SERVER?!
-
As they already said, PC is their main audience for BF3...
-
OK guys, I'm sorry I got a little hot tempered before.
Anyway, the point is that unless we do something about it, the situation with PC gaming is only going to get worse, agreed? So that means that at some point in time we're going to have to stand up to compnies and say no in some form or another. The most correct and probably most effective way of doing this is to simply not buy it. So when will that time come? Why not now?
The fact of the matter is that almost everyone in the PC community has at least considered the idea of simply not buying a game because it's getting out of hand. The problem is that people aren't voicing their opinions enough to feel like they have a chance at pulling it off rather than simply being one of maybe 1000 who agree not to buy it. It's like the opposite of a run of a bank.
So I'm asking you, please do not buy this game. Please tell your friends not to buy it. In time you will be rewarded if we manage to pull ourselves together.
I know to some people the idea of having to go into a browser to choose a server isn't that much of a bother, but given the choice would you rather they did it properly and nicely? The same applies to the whole game, it's pretty much garuanteed that MW3 and BF3 will be sub par compared to what games used to be. Some people might not mind the fact that games are getting watered down but given the choice I'm sure you would prefer a game which had all the attention and time it needs to be as good as it can be (something which can't be said about almost all modern games). If this means that it has to be delayed a week because there's a major bug that needs sorting then so be it.
Imagine the same happened when you bought a car. You get to a roundabout and suddenly the brakes fail to work. You end up in a coma for a week. You then phone Audi or Ford or whoever to voice your complaints/curses and they simply say "Ah yes, this is a known issue. We're working on a fix, in a few days time it should be in perfect condition". A week later the security screws over and locks you in your car making you smash the window to get out. You angrily phone again but get the same reply as before. Would you be happy with that? -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
No worries man! I agree something has to be done and I agree that games have been watered down lately, and that devs are not giving us that many great games, but this game to me atleast seems to be pretty decent. It has it's flaws, but what games don't. Not every game released is a perfect gem and I know that the motto these days seems to be try and make the quick buck and feed crap to people because that is what people have shown them they will take. I just don't think imposing those views on others is the right way to do it, which is what was happening to Phistachio. If my car did that I would sue the s*** outta the company that made me that car, but I don't think that you should compare a life or death situation as the brakes cutting out or getting locked in your car by your cars security to a game. Just seems like apples and oranges to me. -
I honestly think some people are just looking for things to get upset about.
The browser-based server list worked just fine in the alpha, and unless they somehow ruin it between now and release, I have no complaints. You click a server, it takes a few seconds to load, and boom, you're in the game.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm buying BF3 for the game, not for the menus or in-game server browser.
Battlefield 3 PC won?t have in-game server browser, Battlelog is the main menu
