Before you cry out "TF2 rip off!!"... read the article first... this idea of a cartoony FPS was in the works before Valve released their new Team Fortress.
I am honored to bring you the exclusive article that cannot even be found on the Battlefield Heroes mainsite.
Some of you might have seen this cover picture floating around the web:

a good read, thanks for posting. the game sounds promising and low system requirement is definitely a plus. i don't mind in-game advertising if it helps fund the project. i actually find ads fun and interesting at times.

Looks good, but not sure about the 3rd person view...
-
-
Looks really promising! (Well, way better than those free FPS's that still use like DirectX 8 graphics)
-
This could be awesome, I haven't read the article yet, but my first thought was that the graphics style is taken directly from TF2.
-
-
wow any ideas on a release date or is it still deep in development?
-
afaik it's still far in development. i think.. since they just released TF2 not too long ago
-
Release Date: Q3 2008
-
not sure, but I've read somewhere (believe in gametrailers.com forums) that it's gonna be 3rd person.
EDIT:
Found it
http://planetbattlefield.gamespy.com/fullstory.php?id=147747 -
it has been announced that it would be in 3rd person... but some sources says that it would be optional.
The beta will happen this summer. -
aww 3rd person would ruin it, imo. To me, this game looks like it has alot of potential and id hate to see it ruined by a decision like that..
-
it would feel like SOCOM to me.
-
i don't htink 3rd person would necessarily be a bad thing. who knows what kind of benefits it'll have a overall gameplay and experience. there are already enough options out there for first person shooters.
-
If you take a look the pictures in the magazine, there are couple screenshots of the game being played in 3rd person, which is kinda nice, hopefully it will play nicely as well.
But, as mentioned, these things can change, maybe they will add the ability to toggle between first and third person view. -
-
i like sneaking around and 3rd person completely shuts that out (like in counterstrike i like to knife people from behind
), thats why id rather it be a fps game rather than a 3rd person. But who knows, could be fun as 3rd person. Ill definatly give it a shot though
-
i hope it's a fun fast paced shooter like cod4.
-
i rather stick with TF2 since i already own it
-
a free BF is just something I gotta try..
they just better not have that lame 60Hz refresh rate issue again. -
Interesting read. Thanks for posting this.

Just added this to the main thread:

So i get the feeling that I am the only one who hates the look and sound of this game. Call me crazy, but this just seems like a huge step down, and not really appealing at all. Appalling, yes, bu not appealing. Is free though, so i guess people will take it...
-
that's what they said about zelda windwaker until people actually played it. sometimes the more realistic they try to make the game the more you'll see its imperfections -- which takes away from the whole realism aspect. it's not a successor to BF 2 i wouldn't worry about it.
-
looks like the TF2 graphics
must be intresting tho -
Gunner = Heavy + Soldier + Pyro
Commando = Spy + Sniper + Scout
Soldier = Medic?
Anyways they said they came up with the idea before TF2 came out so...??? -
I'm definitely interested in this, heck, I'll try anything free. They're usually great change of pace games.
I'm up for anything in the third-person vs. first-person debate...as long as it's a server-sided option. It's the cheapest way to get kills when you're running towards a corner and your opponent has a heads up bead on you because they were using third person.
Does anybody known anything new about Battlefield 3 (not BF: Bad Company) besides the rumors released last October? -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Thanks for the info Gophn. Though I would say the article implies that both companies were doing it simulatenously and no one company thought of it first. Who was to say Valve didn't think of it before? Either way I think he just meant to say neither jipped each other off.
-
-
I made the fix for it (using Nvidia Control Panel), so its fine.
-
Hopefully they will support widescreen resolutions this time! It's a shame that we have to do a cmd line hack on BF2 and BF2142 to get it...seeing there are older games out there that have native support for it.
-
Hell, there's games from 7 or 8 years ago that would allow for any resolution or FOV you desired. Every game, especially these days, should allow for that. I know there's always the 'fairness' concern with some people able to see more on the screen than others for multiplayer, but with widescreen the defacto norm now, just do it!
That being said, looks like this will be a fun playable game for the Asus Eee PC! System requirements are spot on for that little guy. -
That would be pretty cool to play this game on a notebook like EEE PC or a PDA sized system.
-
-
Those screens don't look widescreen to me
-
its still in alpha (early beta) stages.
I would not worry about the widescreen issue in new games anymore. -
are the alphas/betas downloadable?
and it looks like its guna be funlookin forward to it
-
looks like tf2
-
it looks more like worms to me haha.
-
You mean Worms 3D?
That is a good comparison.... with the deformable terrain.
But I like the original 2D Worms (World Party and Armageddon). -
Oh Worms! Don't get me started. Wasted so many hours in college due to that stupid game. lol
Such a simple premise, yet so devious and fun. The banana bomb was the ultimate. Wish they'd make a decent 3D update. The 2D ones were the best. 3D sucked. -
Its all about the Holy Bomb (Hand Grenade).
"Hallelujah..." ... BOOM! -
Looks like some graphic intensive stuff...for my 6200! lol
-
If this game only take such a weak video card to run, then why does valve's TF2 require........................
>.> -
Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
The switching weapons(according to the pictures) part reminds me of the Medal of Honor series.
-
-
"The minimum usually means you can see the title screen" - my definition.
But 640x480... that should be playable... we hope. -
those screens look great, i love these colorful games once in a while, we have been having too many dull colored games for the sake of better graphics.
