So my copy of BFBC2 arrived a day early and I was super excited to install it and get online - only problem was that the game is unplayable.

Performance is fine but I get massive graphical glitches. The 3D renderer isn't affected - only the 2D HUD elements which appear to cause artifacting all over the screen and on top of the gameplay image, thus obscuring my view. Sometimes the white lines which make up the cross hair will stretch out into giant white rectangles or a greyed out version of the map will suddenly occupy the entire left half of the screen for a second or two. Either that or I'll get blocks of solid colour or the a transparent grey square partially cover up the entire screen.

My drivers are up to date and my specifications more than exceed the minimum requirements - anyone else having this issue and/or found a solution?

I had the same problem. Go to My Documents>BFBC2>settings.ini
Find "DxVersion" and change it to "DxVersion=9" and you'll get rid of the artifacting.

That fix worked for me and I get almost double fps too. That game not only uses all 4 Cores, it also uses all threads, talk about CPU hungry.

What do you have your graphics settings at? I haven't quite finished tweaking things.

I have everything set to High at native resolution, HBAO enabled, AA disabled through the Nvidia Control panel because in game had no 0 setting, AF is set to 1x and Vsync disabled. I average about 55-60 fps, sometimes up to 80 fps in game.

You can also disable bloom in the settings.ini file. Set the value from true to false.

Where the heck is that file?! I've been searching for it and can't find settings.ini anywhere! I installed from the DVD (cheaper than the Steam version) and if it really does solve the problem, then that'd be great if I could track it down...!

EDIT: Ugh - misread your post, was looking in the wrong folder! Will try it out now!

It does solve the problem but apparently HBAO only works in DX10 / 11 so you might miss out on that.

Problem solved - although I did notice a lack of HBAO which is annoying.

Hopefully they'll patch the DX10 version to run better soon. Don't think I'm matching your FPS which is weird though - FRAPS wouldn't show up for some reason so I couldn't get a reading on mine but it definitely dropped below 30 at points.

I'm getting great FPS now as well - from 30 to around 90 in places (and down to about 14 whenever it hits a checkpoint for a second or two annoyingly). Thought it was going below 30 but that was just my eyes seeing the drop from 60 to 40 during intense scenes...

I expect there will be a patch pretty soon. I hear a lot of people complaining about bugs.

I hear about this artifacting issue a lot when I'm playing online, and I just reply "force DX9" and continue sniping :D

I haven't done extensive testing yet but so far Nvidia Mobile 196.86 has solved my graphical glitches in DX10 mode for BFBC2. Not only do I get great performance with these ones, GTA IV is smoother and they perform just as well and in some cases better than official 186.81. These are the first Drivers to outperform those. If you decide to install, you should read through the thread since it mentions some potential issues.

    I had no problems though.

Hm. I'm getting the good old "setup can not find compatible devices" error message.

    Even with the modded .inf?

Read hovercrafts post in the thread. It should help.

Well I just tried Hovercraft's method, but still got the same error.
I replaced the .inf with the modded one and it worked. Now I'm going to restart, hopefully without encountering BSOD.
    Fingers crossed.

Edit: I can confirm that the modded .inf works with the 8690. No BSOD, no problems whatsoever.

Now if I could just get used to this trackpad :D

    Edit (again):
Actually I have one caveat. The drivers work beautifully, and DX10 on all high settings with war tapes turned on is absolutely glorious.
The only problem is I can't seem to get my external display set up correctly anymore. It now detects my monitor (HP vs17)as two separate devices. If I choose the monitor labeled "HP vs17" the monitor won't detect the signal. If I choose the monitor labeled "generic VGA monitor" the monitor works, but the resolution is nothing short of horrifying.
If I figure out a fix I'll post it here.
