Just saw this title listed in gamespot. Its Tba and some screenshots are available. A news from tomshardware.

Friday Electronic Arts updated its Battlefield franchise portfolio with the announcement of Battlefield Play4Free, slated to hit the PC in Spring 2011. As the name indicates, the game will offer the free-to-play model while combining most of the popular maps found in Battlefield 2 with the classes and weapons of Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

But unlike EA's other free-to-play online shooter Battlefield Heroes--which offers cartoonish characters and arcade gameplay--Battlefield Play4Free will render a more realistic experience offering 32-player online battles, signature Battlefield vehicular warfare and sandbox gameplay. The game also boasts advanced graphics and polished production values.

"We broke new ground in 2009 with the launch of Battlefield Heroes; a game that has 6M registered players worldwide. Now we are complementing that arcade shooter with a core, realistic Battlefield shooter experience that fans have been clamoring for," said James Salt, Senior Producer, Battlefield Play4Free. "Battlefield Play4Free is for serious shooter fans who are looking for a premium--but free--experience that rivals top console titles."

I'm actually looking forward to this.

Heroes was a great game until they made it unbalanced by giving players who played much more powerful weapons

Hopefully, dice learned from that and will avoid that for this one

They will probably only give you the base weapons , any extra weapons you will have to pay for, or accessories maybe: Scopes, sights, launchers.... so on. Or possibely you have to pay for your account monthly , like quake live, like an mmo, maybe? In game advertisements? advertisements on load screens while waiting for map load? I wonder if they will let you run your own server or you can only use ea servers? Probably ea servers.

Lots of questions need to be asked thats for sure, how much of an improvement over BF2 graphics will there be? What about destructable environments like BFBC?

Is this worth picking up or waiting for the much anticipated BF3?

Would just buying BF2 and modding BFBC2 guns into it with a graphic mod prove to be the same ?

No thanks. I'll wait for BF3.

EDIT: And to add a bit more, I own both BF2 and BC2 and a mix of both games isn't a good idea.
