I'm sure not everyone here has only begun gaming. Lets make a list of the "old" (<2004) games we used to play (or still play). It's also fun to look back and think "omg, my pc couldn't run THIS?".
As an added plus whoever runs IGP's can discover games that will run smoothly. I don't understand why people think the only games that are good are the most recent ones. People used to play games before 2007/08 too, remember?
I'll start:
Aliens vs. Predator 2 - I still consider it the most intriguing FPS I've ever played. Not only are the campaigns awesome, it still has over 100 multiplayer servers running 7 YEARS after release (yes with people on them).
Bedlam - I don't think many people will recognize this one at all. It was an arcade type game where you would beam down as a robot and shoot everything up (monsters and the likes) in 2.5D. Yes omg, a DOS game with a destructable environment.
-
-
Warcraft 3 - Still one of the greatest RTS out there, and playing all the custom games with buddies is a blast.
-
mattireland It used to be the iLand..
Secret Agent: The Hunt for the Red Rock Rover was the BEST game I have every played.
There was also MS Flight Simulator 1: That kept me entertained for ages.
and also the original crashbandicoot for the playstation - I loved it.
I haven't gamed for a couple of years so these are the only games I really remember - and they were sooooooo good!
Thanks for making this thread! -
Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 (yah the origonal win 95 version ) ... it actually runs in Vista!!! after some tweaks and other 'tricks'.
Red Alert 2 released in 2000 and still play (this one was FUN to RUN in vista... but it now works.
Civilization 3
Age of Empires 2
C & C Generals and Zero Hour -
Enemy Territory Wolfenstein (2002 or 2003) still has thousands of servers and its still plenty fun! Oh and the source code is out, so there are soooo many maps and mods
Quake...
Team Fortress...
idk... I probably wasnt even born when those games where out -

Freelancer for the PC - an open world space flight game with a good soundtrack and was a lot of fun online. The single player story was very good as well. But it does have some issues on vista...Oh well, those with xp get to enjoy this gem of a game.
Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries - the best game fo the mechwarrior 4 lineup, it featured you as the leader of a mercenarygroup. You had to hire pilots, buy, build, and maintain your army of mechs. You could decide which missions to take and refuse throughout the game leading to one of three endings depending on what path you chose. You could compete in a bunch of arena battles on one planet to become the best arena fighter in the galaxy ( a very cool side-quest series and a great way to earn money). There were also many neat touches within each mission. In one of the earliest ones you come across a checkpoint with some light vehicles, one active mech, and a mech that has not been started yet. If you shoot the tent near the unstarted mech, you kill the plot and can claim that mech as salvage at the end of the mission. It is one of my all time favorite games.
PSO Blue Burst - Phantasy Star Online episodes 1,2, and the newest one - 4 all for the pc. I play on a free server since the official ones have been shut down (I think). But it's a very simple dungeon crawler game with some neat graphics and a decent community on the servers I play on. -

Forgot to include Empire Earth. Was an incredibly fun game and for its time had superb graphics for an RTS. Advancing through the ages quickly and facing your opponents' cavalry with 10-story tall robots was pretty evil

I have MAME and 1166 games. All the great (and not so great) quarter operated arcade games. But I also love NFS "Porches Unleashed" damn I got good at that one.
-
Some of the games mentioned certainly AREN'T oldies... At the VERY latest an "oldie" should be considered up to the year 2000.
I'm going to add Redline (the FPS one), Kingpin, C&C Red Alert, and... damn there's this game I forgot but it was a very popular PC vertical scrolling plane shooter. You had levels and after every level you retreat to your "hangar" and get all kinds of upgrades. -
AAAHHHH NFS PORCHE UNLEASHED!!! I couldn't get off that game...and.............. Quake 3 had me hooked too. Gotta love the 1 hit kill rockets.
