I just got a 360 controller so i can play games on my HTPC in my living room on the big screen (60 inch TV), so which PC games is fun to play with a 360 controller on my TV?
-
There are so many. Check out all the controller supporting games on steam, especially any game that is tagged to support "Big Picture mode". Though there are plenty that support controllers that are not "Big Picture mode" approved.
-
Assassins Creed and Fifa come to mind. Also tomb Raider and maybe something like grid 2?
Those are all games I enjoy and own that I use a controller with -
particularly FiFA and NBA series games are not made for keyboard

Heh everything but RTS games. I love using my controller, I use it at every opportunity.

You made a good choice with the xbox 360 controller, from all the joypads I owned, this ine is has the pbest compatibility with basicly all games- just plug and play. I play pretty much everithing with it expect FPS or third person shooters where I can benefit from the precision aiming with mouse. If you are a sport fan, try FIFA or PES, or NBA2k13, also some race games like grid or nfs which have arcadish feel and play awesome on a joypad.

Dark Souls is supposed to be an interesting one, I think. Controls are actually quite awkward without a 360 controller.

Darksiders II was a good one. It was one of the games that I didn't even want to play without a controller. Also, any of the old Sega Packs offered on Steam are great. Cant go wrong with old school.
-
I may get some flack for this but Far cry 3 plays pretty well with an xbox controller even online thanks to aim assist
-
You won't hear flak from me, I usually use a controller for all games that fully support it. Just more comfortable to sit on the couch with the notebook that way..
-
With my 360 wireless controller I've played these games so far this year:
Max Payne 3
Tomb Raider
Metro Last Light
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
Bio Shock Infinite
IMHO nothing beats the wireless 360 and PC. I just could never get used to the pc keys and mouse. Killed way to many times. -
360 controller on the PC? /shudder/
-
I was a hardcore mouse+keybd too.. I was the first in our doom fest crew (man.. We're talking 1994) to start using mouse. I'd circle strafe them, they all had to switch or suffer losing badly every match. But, times change I guess. You'd never catch me using a controller 10 years ago.

My xbox controller on pc is a little stiff and squeaky. Anyone have a guide to lubricating the 360 joystick?
-
I actually find that some games are easier to handle with a controller even on PC, that completely excludes shooters and RTS though. Some games were clearly made for console and ported to PC which makes a controller feel more natural imo, sonic generations would be a good example of a game where I prefer using a controller.
-
Fallout 3/New Vegas are pretty great when played on the controller (as noted above).
I play all my FIFA games with it as well, but that's about it. -
Ares. Batman. Trine.
If you are masochistic try super meat boy. -
Only game that I found decent with a controller, well not really decent, but better than mouse/keyboard, was Dead Space. But the controls were still too wonky to ever finish the game. It was kinda like I was driving a car sitting on the roof using ropes to steer the wheels.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I disagree, no way I could control 40 VS 40 battles in TW without a controller, its the best thing since hoola hoops.
but to be serious the only games I see that might be good are the platform games and some action games like those fighting games, everything else is a big no no -
Some good RPGs such as The last remnant and maybe some emulators.
-
Skyrim can be decent with a controller.
Definitely GTA 4, I dunno about you, but I find the gameplay dire if I try to play it with mouse/keyboard, played the game with Xbox 360 controller and it was amazing.
Fighting games such as Street Fighter x Tekken (or well, any fighting game) are nice with controller. -
Definitely TLR, it feels awkward on keyboard with the default settings and the game isn't riddles with framerate issues on PC compared to the 360.
Yeah, but if you're like me and prefer a D-Pad for those to the stick, the 360 controller has the worse D-Pad ever made. -
i dont understand why they made the d-pad so crappy. Was there no testers for that thing? I mean the normal nintendo dpad is better!
-
Yeah, D-pad isn't good, I just ignore it and just use the stick.
-
NBA 2k and FIFA are the games I play on the tv. That, and Assassin's Creed on occasion.

Anyone who uses wireless Xbox 360 controller for PC, has the receiver died on you after like 6 months of use? Mine just died, absolutely no sign of life.
Should I buy another wireless controller /w receiver so I can have 2 controllers available in the rare case of multiplayer or just go with wired?
Also, for games like Sonic Adventure and side-scrollers games, a controller is pretty much a must. (though keyboard is usable for the latter) -
You can buy the receiver on Amazon alone. They are from China and may or may not be officially licensed. (Read may not) but mine has been working fine for like 2 years now.
-
Any sports games like FIFA. Also, any game that's been out on console as well as on PC will run really well with a 360 controller.
-
I've been using the same wireless receiver and controller since they were first available.... it has outlasted multiple laptops!
Not sure why yours died but mine has been used regularly for years without a single hiccup, so I'd replace and expect the new one to last years as well.
-
Exactly. I don't think there's any room for being apologetic about it - the gameplay is absolutely enhanced with a controller. I especially like the force feedback and the feeling of pulling a gun trigger. Sure, my performance is going down quite a bit, as accurate aiming and precise weapon switching take a huge hit, but what's important for me is having fun and not necessarily being 1337.
Anyway, one of my all time favorite on a controller is Borderlands 2, as the force feedback makes me giggle when I empty a few machine gun clips on a monster. Far Cry 3 is similar in overall experience, but not quite as fun as you have to conserve ammo in that game and you die much more easily so you can't just stand there and empty magazines like Rambo.
Skyrim on a controller is quite immersive as well, especially due to the separate left hand/right hand actions. The rumble when beheading someone with a two handed sword is gaming bliss. Dishonored feels the same on a successful kill (although the game itself didn't quite captivate me).
Kingdoms of Amalur is fun with a controller, specifically during a successful long combo.
Racing games like the new Sonic racing game shine on a controller as well. Dead Island was fun as well with it.
I found 'pure' FPS like Battlefield, Call of Duty and Unreal Tournament and the like hardly as fun, but I don't like these games even without a controller. -
This is exactly why. If I cared about being competitive at multiplayer I would switch when playing those not to mention sit at a desk instead of sinking into the couch, but I don't. I rarely play mp anymore, the only time recently I did was dayz and using mouse key for that on a pillow with my dark field Logitech worked great. Same goes for D3, though my wife was getting annoying by the clicking
