Just got my copy of COD4 today. But the game freezes every
1 or 2 hours. It recovers after 2,3 minute and the game becomes very laggy after that. When I switch to desktop, I notice there is a yellow triangle warning sign on the taskbar.
My Dell 1520(T7300 2.0Ghz , 8600GT, 3G Ram) has been running other game fine. So i suspect it is a drive problem. I am currently using 163.44, which was optimized for Bioshock. Suggestion on this matter is welcome.

Try 169.04, but it may be overheating from how you're describing it.
-
are u overclocking your gpu?
-
I run those on my 8600GT and they are pretty much flawless. Overclocking will lead to problems...either sooner or later... -
I am running stock speed and I have a cooling pad on all time. COD4 is the only game that freezes on my computer. (other high demand game, including bioshock runs fine). That why i suspect its driver relate issue.
I will try to update the driver, see if that works. -
that yellow triangle means that the display driver stopped responding and has now recovered. this could be due to drivers or your overclock causing your gpu to overheat.
remember every game is different and as such utilities and stresses your graphics card in different ways, so your overclock for bioshock might or might not work with call of duty 4. The same applies to every game -
I get this problem also, and I have not overclocked anything. Tried both 163.44 and the newest 169.04 and both have this problem!
-
Tried 169.04, the problem persists. I am not even push the game very far, running stock speed medium-low setting. Frame rate is around 75-80. But sometime it drops to 1, then a black screen appears. My laptop is relatively cool when that happens.
Let me try to downgrade to a stable driver. -
I have the same problem... 169.04 drivers
-
The demo was giving me this problem as well.
Think they will release new drivers for COD4? -
169.04 gives me consistent >30 framerate, averaging 40 at 1280x800 and high textures. Never a problem in 4 hours of playing.
-
I use the 163.71 drivers on mine and get about 40 fps with 2xaa at 1280x800 res or the same fps at 1600x1050 res no aa. Are you running anything in the background? Try running rivatuner in the background and use the gpu temp graph while you play for a bit then alt-tab out of it just to make sure your not overheating.
