the Unreal Tournament series has some crazy AI ever since the first UT (which won game of the year for the AI and graphics).

Just turn them on to Godlike and you would be lucky to get a positive score at the end of the match. LOL. *HEADSHOT*

F.E.A.R should be quite cheap right now (at least it is where I am :)). Enemy will flank you and flush you out. Do not expect them to take a set path. Pretty good A.I. If you're feeling particularly hard, you can download a mod to turn the radio off (only criticism to the game imo)

I found that the soldiers in FEAR reacted pretty well to my actions sometimes, although not always. They were supposed to be much better, but sometimes they were just as dumb as every other game. Part of the problem with the whole flanking and flushing idea is that the maps in the game didn't have much space for that to happen. When you are stuck in an office building for hours at a time there are only 2 doors to a room, so you pretty much know which way to expect enemies from... now when the invisible wall crawler guys come around, thats a different story entirely...

I agree with UT. They might not have done amazing things in terms of flanking and whatnot, but they sure did get an accuracy boost. Probably the best arcade-style AI so far.

Actually I have never played UT2004, so I was talking about the original (yeah I know, it is outdated). However I would assume that the AI got improved and carried over from the first one.

There are a bunch of people here who have played/are playing UT2004 right now on these forums, so I am sure they would love to enlighten you!

the UT2004 AI is amazingly accurate and strategic [somewhat]...
c'mon they can wall strafe or dash jump and still frag you with major accuracy.

If you want to improve your reflexes and skills in FPS games, play Deathmatch in UT games. The AI will tear you a new one, but you learn to evade and respond quick. ;)

I used to play the original UT in college... it was great. Some buddies and I would log into auto-adjust servers, kick the bots up to Godlike skills, and then rejoin as spectators and watch the n00b's get fragged ;) I loved the flak cannon... I could get people with direct hits of the grenades almost every time.

Red Orchestra: Osfront (based off of the Unreal 2.x engine) is a great game that got little attention by the public, but got good reviews [runner-up for FPS game of the year in 2006]. Started the whole vehicle-war type games. The AI is okay, but the online play is more strategic and complex than BF2-type games. It definitely take a bit of time playing to learn to play this game (aiming/shooting, driving vehicles, strategic planning, etc..).

I played it when it was a UT2003/2004 mod, then it won the Mod Contest and went retail... then I ran into the development team at last year's E3. Definitely got improved over the mod, although I did not like going through Steam to play this game over the UT style online server browser.

Me too. That thing was handheld death. Back on topic, I don't ever recall playing against bots that ever played like real people do. It's dead easy to write a bot with ultimate reflexes and perfect aim, but to write one that behaves human? On the other hand, I haven't really played FPSs much in the last couple of years, so they might have improved.
