    Any recommendations for a decent chess game, something to go easy on an amateur, but ramps up difficulty as you get better? Preferably free?

    Chessmaster is pretty good, loved the annotated games feature, but then again, I am a pretty serious chess player.

    I actually prefer Fritz - engine that is derived from deep blue.
