Name some games that have given you the best co-op experience in your life. Something exciting, fun, or just mind blowing stories. Gameplay > Graphics. Looking for something to play with 2+ people at my house (My girlfriend and I).
Reqirements?
Could be for PC or atleast Emulated on PC (such as ps1/gba/ds/(s)nes)
Could be on Wii (we just got one for christmas this year)
Basically, we just got done kicking a** on borderlands, and blazed through the DLC, and now we need something new to play. ((Awesome bonding experience. Lucky men have a beautiful woman. Luckiest men have a beautiful woman who loves videogames!))
Genre is wide open. Fps, rpg, action/adventure, hacknslash, puzzle, platformer, etc. Only thing out of the question is montly fee's (mmorpg).

I thought beating RE5 and getting all the of the achievements on the 360 was a blast with my friend. Oh, and nice thread topic.

SC: Chaos Theory co op looks pretty fun
-
I friggin love Left 4 Dead 2. If you can get 3 people you know and get a good Versus match going, or campaign, or Survival
i'm gona go play some now (even though my GPU is about to die! i'll play it with crazy lines everywhere!) You should get it.
NOW I SAY -
That Synergy mod for HL2? When people actually got on to play together co-op style it was really fun!

Left 4 Dead 2 is "technically" better, but Left 4 Dead wins it for me since it was obviously the more groundbreaking title. There was never anything like L4D before it, and it ROCKED.
That said, I recommend L4D2 over the original, as they fixed some broken gameplay design elements. -
Original for me was BF1942. I loved playing with a couple of friends against bots. I have rekindled the love of Co-op play with L4D. The game play is better since it's made specifically for a small group of friends.
-
Unless the OP knows something that I don't but my life isn't over yet.
The best co-op gameplay I've experienced so far would be Halo 2 and Left 4 Dead, both on consoles. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Expert on Left 4 Dead 2. We had an awesome team, and at the finale they managed to cover me while I AEDed a dead teammate. It's win to see a adrenline-mainlining Coach and Rochelle dancing around a tank with katanas when you know a single hit from a tank will incap them.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Metal Slug! 4-player co-op crazy fun times.

Rainbox Six Vegas 2 - Terrorist hunt mode (PC). Really great, especially on the harder difficulty levels.
The original Halo and Halo 2 on the Xbox were always fun too (and I'm not much of a console guy). -
League of Legends
Left 4 Dead 1&2
Monster Hunter (This is one of the best).
And from the looks of it... Lost Planet 2 will take the crown. -
SWAT 4.
I tried doing this with a friend.. we were just terrible teammates. Games freakin' hard. You gotta be tactical and you gotta be able to communicate with your teammate effectively. -
Bf1942
Rogue Spear -
Rainbow Six Las Vegas 2 was bloody great fun in Co-op. Had a great first person/third person system. If you guys haven't tried it, definetly worth a crack.
I played heaps of Op Flashpoint and ARMA and while back with friends. Great fun in co-op up against the computer. Plus heaps and heaps of mods plus maps made for it.
Supreme Commander with one friend up against three cheating AI's can be quite the challenge, and alot of fun. -
Killing Floor on Suicidal.
Looking forward to Lost Planet 2 the most for future co-op. -
Left 4 Dead 1 & 2
Killing Floor -
BF1942
AOE

PC or Wii
Lego Indiana Jones
Lego Star Wars
Lego Batman
I liked the second Indiana Jones the best, and I played these with my seven-year old. Your mileage as an adult couple may vary.
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance/2/X-Men: Legends 2 (2 is not on the PC...Legends is not on the Wii)
PC
Diablo/Diablo 2/Dungeon Siege/Sacred (Action RPGs)
Baldur's Gate/Baldur's Gate 2/Icewind Dale/Icewind Dale 2 (RPGs...slower paced)
Gears of War
And to answer the other part of the question...most fun I ever had on a co-operative game was my friend and I vs my brother and other friend in the arcade on a 2-screen Cyberball cabinet...you can emulate the game with mame on the PC, but the interface/environment just isn't the same (of course, it's much cheaper to emulate than 50 cents/person/period [6 periods])...and 4-player TMNT in the arcade was close... -
Original Ghost Recon's was the best for me
-
Guild Wars
No monthly fee, it has campaigns with a more similar structure to normal RPGs with a storyline you go through mission by mission with cutscenes and stuff as opposed to the usual "wander around looking for people to ask you to kill stuff" structure of an MMO so it works better for a coop experience. I like standard MMO-fare and have been playing guild wars off and on for quite some time, but I was able to get my friend into it that is more of just a normal RPG fan. He bought the game, I made a new character and we played the entire prophecies campaign together and also got sidetracked with just exploring the off the beaten path areas and had a great time. After we beat the campaign he put it down and hasn't played since just because he isn't really into the more MMO aspects but he definitely agrees it was worth it.
Resident Evil 5
I've only actually played the coop mode on the xbox 360 version, but damn it was fun. Lot's of teamwork in that game and it's just fun to shoot zombies. Played through it with the same friend and ironically he still plays it but I haven't touched it since we finished the campaign. -
Borderlands anyone?
-
of my life? Phantasy Star Online haha
Of recent? Gears of War 1/2 are both great co-op games as well as L4D1. L4D2 was good but I spent much more time playing the first than the second. -
Other than that, yeah it's fun. -
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, getting max rank on Hard mode in all missions. Me and my girlfriend have been at it, pumped almost 50 hours into the game and we're still only about 75% through.
The sequel, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles, is also pretty good. -
I'll second all the recommendations for Left 4 Dead/L4D2, and Gears of War for PC was pretty neat as well...too bad they never released the next one. Same with Halo and Halo 2, but not 3. :/
Anyway, another good one is Modern Warfare 2's Special Ops mode...basically, it's a collection of 23 different missions made for co-op play. You can technically do most of them individually, but it's way more fun and manageable with a partner. There are two that require two players, where one player operates an AC-130 gunship or an attack helicopter to cover their partner on the ground. They're all wicked fun, and there's a huge variety, ranging from sprinting through a training course, to taking on a favela full of Juggernauts. -
There's this game called Trine that's really fun with two players. It's made for 3, but 2 players works just fine too.
-
Gunstar Heroes on highest difficulty is the best co-op in existence.
-
Halo is always a great Co-op game. Especially Firefight in ODST!
Borderlands is fun as well.
I need to get my hands on Left 4 Dead. I have yet to play it. -

Great suggestions guys. I'm definitely going to grab up Left4Dead and possibly the sequal too...since it was mentioned the most. I always thought it was just another zombie shooter overhyped by the steam crowd, but it seems like it still has a strong base ever since it's release.
There's a bunch of other suggestions i'll have to try out since i've heard good things but have no idea what they're about. I've been in and out of gaming for awhile. I kinda go through phases of a year or so, and come back looking for something to fill my hunger. -

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
Rock Band parties at my house.
Nothing like 3 or 4 "bands" going head to head in fun competition playing and seeing along to some of our favourite music. -
Dude OP,
I exactly know what you are looking here. And hardly few games could be as fun as Mortal Combat: Shaolin Monks (Xbox) here. Too bad the game was bit easy and short. My wife used to hate gaming, had never played any games (other than solitaire/minesweeper). I kinda pushed her to try MKSM and she was so hooked to it.
You feel so lucky when on friday night (after all essential things done), she cutely asks, "Well... can we check whats ahead in the game and sleep after we kill the next boss?"
-----
I actually bought an old Xbox at ebay for $30 only because I wanted to play this game. Highly recommended. In fact now I want to ask other people, what other games are similar to this? I am surely gonna try L4D too!
From old times, I always just loved co-op modes of all Contra/double dragon seris. -
Heyyyy Left 4 Dead 2 is on sale for $23.99 on amazon!! Since all valve Pc retail games tie to steam it's essentially the same thing, except you get a DVD to install from instead of wasting bandwidth. No DVD drive? Just register the key and download via steam anyway.
here's the link. Deal of the day so get on it.
L4D2 on amazon DotD -
In terms of relatively recent games, I'll have to chalk another vote for rainbow six vegas 2. Great co-op from start to finish. My gf also loves little big planet on ps3. Might not be your cup of tea since it doesn't have the action of a FPS, but I have to admit it's really fun.
-
RS: Vegas 2 Co-Op is pretty good. Fun with a group of friends (max of 4 I think?) in the same room. Of course, it was even funnier since I was not used to the controls (used to the lean feature from RS: Raven Shield) and repeated 'naded our friend who was playing from his house a mile away while the 3 of us were in the same room. Loved double tapping with the M468. It can get hairy when you're down to the last terrorist, you're dragging around, and only have your pistol left.
-
speaking of which, Steam now has L4D2 on sale for $24.99 saves you the shipping time/cost if you don't have prime but you only can install via download. if you can get a four pack going it'll be ~$18.99
-
For Console ,
Halo series has always been great... My favourite Xbox360 game was Halo 3... haven't had a chance to play ODST yet...
For PC,
Battlefield 1942 was great! In fact i'm going to install it today! -
Contra 3 for SNES.... an unforgettable classic...
On ps3 Warhawk, you could play with 4 partner at the same time on a single ps3 ONLINE, against other online...
On pc resident evil 5 seems a good option. -
Goldeneye 64, Donkey Kong Country, Contra, Early Sonic games....
Anybody else had a brother almost as old as him, and remember how even on weekends you'd wake up at 5am anyway to play games with him because you just couldnt wait to unlock some more levels or beat that boss? -
Splinter Cell Double Agent on PS2.
Or Little Big Planet for ps3. -
Try out some of the original Kirby games for the SNES, very nice graphics for such old games and amazing coop (one of you gets to play using the enemies as a character!)
In addition, Diablo II was quite fun by itself or cooped.
I would've recommended Borderlands had you not played it already, have you beaten Crawmerax already?
Finally, if you want some pretty amazing coop fun, I would second Trine. The graphics are great and the gameplay works out great as well. -
For me it's still Killing Floor. Left 4 Dead 2 I can snooze, it's ok. Borderlands is great, but finding a good group is really tough and players are more concerned with getting loot.
Killing Floor is the cheapest, best supported co-op game I've every played, along with most fun.
- All other co-op games I've played required outrageous prices, and even more outrageous DLC prices.
- Killing Floor I bought for $15, a buddy of mine got his around December for $4.99.
- ALL DLCs for Killing Floor have been FREE!
Without question the most fun I've had in co-op so far. -
Neverwinter nights and Mask of the Betrayer were amazing in Co-op.
-
um for me i have a had awesome fun on halo 2 on xbox and cod5 world at war zombies mode
halo2 was on split screen and cod5 was on lan every time i went to my freinds house -
Age of Empires 2. I'm fortunate to have 3 brothers and 2 cousins who love that game... as such we would organize teams of 3 vs. 3 and let the chaos ensue. Good times! Same is also true with Starcraft and Rise of Nations.
Titan Quest, I absolutely love playing that game with my brothers. It was the most fun I've had in a long time.
Super Mario RPG. Okay, this one is not really co-operative. But if you take turns fighting the battles it can be great fun. -
First time I tried a Dynasty Warriors game with a friend was pretty awesome. I had never played a game with so many bad guys to mow down.
---
But my absolute most favorite co-op experience wasn't even a legit co-op! Back when I was about 9 years old, my friend and I saved up our money to buy Super Mario 64 for the N64. We both had petty allowances so we had to resort to the neighborhood bake sales/lemonade stands. Although there was no two-player support, my friend and I both took turns finding stars and clearing levels.
Now, that was a very hard game for two 9 year olds to play, especially the later levels. We would probably play a few times each week after school, and usually one (or both) of us picked up some useful tips and tricks from the premature gamers around the playground (it's how I managed to beat the water temple in Ocarina of Time heh).
Anyways, we would eat a bunch of snacks, postpone our homework, and just play Super Mario. When we finally beat the last Bowser, we were so thrilled we were jumping around the house in joy. I think I saw a few tears roll down my friend's face during the credits. It took us so long to beat! Ahh, good times
Best Co-Op experience in your life?
