I apologize beforehand if this has been covered before, I've done a search and didn't find an answer for my question.
The thing I want to know is at what graphical settings are the directx 10 cards (namely the Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT DDR3) good at, and at which they are bad. With that I mean, what is recommended to be turned on or off because it increases the framerates too much? e.g. shadows, AA, resolution, vsync, etc.
    Thanks.

Well, the 8600M GT plays games like F.E.A.R, Doom 3, Command and Conquer 3 at max resolution (on my G1S that's 1440x1050 IIRC) + all details with some caveats. Soft shadows are universally performance-killing, as is turning volumetric lighting up. IMO, if you have a good resolution then AA is pointless - if the borders between objects are too small to see, why bother smoothing them together? Although I don't have the more recent first-person games like Oblivion, I've heard they play at v high settings, perhaps at lower resolutions than the one I quote above.
