162.18 -
does anyone have any for vista 32?
-
www.laptopvideo2go.com has Vista 32- and 64-bit drivers.
I suggest sticking with the WHQL drivers on that page since they tend to be less buggy. -
What have you found to be the best (fastest and most stable) Vista 32 drivers?

However, I do get a Direct3D error in C&C3 which kinda sucks. I can play it for about an hour or so then bam, game crash. -
why do u guys recommend downloading 8600gt drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com
rather than the official nvidia site? -
becuase nvidia.com doesn support laptop video cards
, they leave that to OEMs etc.

158.36 for me.
I 'm using Vista, and all the 16x.xx I 've tried do not allow overclocking.. -
yeah, i'm using windows xp and have the 8600gs. It doesn't let me OC with 162.18 so i'm going to setting the 150+ drivers and hope I dont take a performance hit on the stock clock speeds.
-
-
just tried installing the 158.51 drivers for xp and still it wouldn't let me OC. I don't know whats going on, but with the old 101, everything OCed fine. Those drivers suck though so I don't know if I'm going to get to OC this again. Maybe there's one individual file that's causing this.
-
158.22 also do not allow overclocking.
-
Current drivers I am using have one major glitch: When I close my lappy, the monitor doesn't fire back up, upon re-opening.
-
Will this driver work for the laptop version of the 8600 GT?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_162.22.html
If it does, will it improve game performance?
Thanks. -
I'm on Vista 32-Bit and have a 8600M GT.
I got 165.01 drivers, the newest ones. I don't overclock so I like them. -
They'll work, and likely increase performance. But they wont even install unless you get the modded inf off of laptopvideo2go.com -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
163.16 is the latest driver.
-
Should I roll back and install 163.15 drivers, then? -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah the numbering is haywire, and I learned the same way you did someone told me. I am using 163.14 right now so far so good. Just installed it today don't feel like going through whole installing a new driver for 163.16. I've read 163.14 is the best currently excluding 163.16 and 163.15 reduces performance a bit.
-
The ones you have, 163.14 or 163.16? -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Don't know about 163.16 it just got done yesterday night I think so haven't heard about problems or performance.
-
Thanks for the heads up on them being the best ones.
If you don't mind explaining if you know, how come 163.14, which is a lower number than 165.01, are better drivers? -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Just look at it by date don't follow number. Some of the 158s are actually newer then some of the 16xs. 165.01 came out like 4 months ago.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
No prob. We had a 2 thread conversation goin on there lol.
-
-
Woah, update guys. Definitely DO NOT use the 163.16 drivers. I got a blue screen and all that fun stuff....trying 163.14 now lol
-
-
Ah. Now I get what BSOD meant. Thank you Voodoo.
I am trying to install 163.14, but they won't work....ForeRunner any help? -
How I could know my driver version guys if it's 163.14 or whatever ?
-
in device manager, right click on the graphics card, properties, then driver.
-
So, what is currently the least buggy and best driver for Vista 32-bit (I don't care about overclocking)?
-
Well, I am trying 163.14 currently. Haven't seen much change in terms of performance.
-
which drivers allow overclocking in xp-32.......i have tried 158.22 and 165.01 for my 8600m gt
i hav a vostro 1500. -
i have a vostro 1500 coming next week and am very interested in knowing which driver allows overclocking in xp-32
-
158 drivers are the best for performance on vista 32bit right?
-
-
Do those drivers (158.45) overclock?
-
Yeh i heard they where the best for overclocking?
-
I got no idea. I don't overclock, but I think most of the Release 155 drivers allow overlocking.
-
Alright guess ill stick with the 158.45 for now!
-
should I uninstall my current driver first? its the driver that comes factory installed(which I havent even tried for gamin, but I assume it does not work that well)...
-
Actually....I have a question about that too.
When I install new drivers, should I uninstall the previous drivers, THEN install the new ones?...or just install over them. -
Uninstall first.
Windows tends to want to "help" and thus will try to do the right thing and uninstall, but almost always it screws up. (true to date of EVERY version of Windows including Vista)
Use the uninstall feature to insure the right things are running and it is done right.
You should be able to go into your driver and see the default VGA driver listed before installing a video driver.
Yes, it might work the other way, but almost always you will face issues down the road. Even if it "works" because Windows managed to guess right, you will still end up with registry issues as it forgot to remove something or some software component was still loaded and unable to be removed so it just left it alone.
Think of Windows as a VERY dumb dog.
It does what it is told to the best of its ability...
Too bad its enthusiasm greatly exceeds its ability.
If you keep it controlled and keep your head in the game you might have a solid relationship.
If you ever let the dog do the thinking, you are in trouble. -
hmm, i got another response in another thread, seems people lose the control panel when they uninstall...
-
I tried many many drivers, and this is what I found:
158.22's *DON'T* allow me to OC my 1520's 8600M GT in XP x86.
100's cause graphics glitches in Source games (HL2, CSS, etc.).
160's cause screen to not come back from Sleep and the GPU to downclock to 168/100 when it isn't booted on AC power, no matter how much demand there is for performance.
Most of the 158's have either of the problems listed above, since they are in between 100 and 165, but the 158.22's seem to avoid all the problems (I don't plan to OC). -
dammit.....I'm going to get the frickin 158.22 drivers. I can't stand these constant spikes and constant crashes.
-
So, whats the better driver out there for ddr2 version of the 8600m GT card? With Vista
