hey im running a dell vostro 1500 with 8600mgt 256mb, and i recently purchased fallout 3, and it runs great, but every now and then when i bring up the pip boy, the game will freeze and crash and a driver error will pop up and then it will repair itself.

so what are the latest drivers that would help fix this?

    thanks in advance :)

I just installed the 180.70 drivers and I like them a lot. Give me about 70 3Dmarks more than the 179.13 drivers and appear to be stable.

Nope, no problems so far. I installed the driver like I always do:
    - uninstall
    - run Vista safe mode
    - run driversweeper
    - run Ccleaner
    - add custom .ini from LV2G to driver folder
    - install driver

I've tried some old games like Doom3 and DeusEX and also Crysis for a newer benchmark. Also checked out the HDMI-out => no problems whatsoever.

Only thing that doesn't work is the Nvidia control thingie; you know - when right-clicking on the desktop. But to fix this I just added NVCPLUI.exe to my start-bar, so I can still execute it whenever I want without problems

I've always wondered why people stress so much when they don't get the Nvidia config thingie.. when the NVPLUI.exe prog is always there. You just gotta make a shortcut somewhere else.

Long story short; I can recommend the driver.

I updated to 180.70, but I haven't tried anything too taxing on it, just Galactic Civs 2. I might run Fallout3 and Oblivion soon to see how they fare.

driversweeper is a small app that will wipe any remaining files left from the old drivers that you want to replace. If you are going from 16xx to 17xx or 17xx to 18xx then it is recommended otherwise upgrading to a newer driver in same series eg 178.28 to 178.48 a simple uninstall of the old drivers is usually sufficient.

Ccleaner another small app that cleans your registry and cookies, history of all your internet browsers, highly recommended on all computers.

Try to run driversweeper after unistalling the drivers to wipe them completely, then reboot and re-install the drivers afresh.

Hello everyone this is my first post here decided I should post because I have been using my Macbook pro w/ the 8600m gt a lot for gaming recently.

I've been using the 179 series notebook drivers from nvidia.com and have not run into any problems related to the driver that I know of when gaming. Been playing some cs:s, World in Conflict, and more recently Stalker which I have been trying to squeeze some more fps out of.

I have not run into any technical problems, but I am not sure if the performance is as good as it could be as im trying to get some more fps out of my games and the 179 series is still labeled as a Beta driver at nvidia.com . I hesitated to upgrade to the laptopvideo2go drivers because I heard that it lowered a certain individuals fps by 20 which turned me off pretty quick lol.

I was using the default bootcamp drivers prior to downloading these newer drivers but did not really have a change to compare the performance of the two before upgrading. I will try to be of assistance here if anyone has any questions! :)

What I am really wondering since i did not see many posts recently in 2009 if this thread is still alive (I hope so heh) is..

What is the best driver for the 8600M GT (512mb) ?

I am a little hesitant about the laptopvideo2go drivers because of some bad feedback I heard, do you guys recommend the laptopvideo2go drivers?

Thanks a bunch everyone! :) I will try to post my specs in my sig
