well, I'm a little bored of Mass Effect and Fallout 3, so I thought I'd ask you guys. I'm a big fan of both of them, and was wondering if you could recommend a good FPS/RPG for me to pick up. I really enjoyed CoD4 also.

    Rainbow Six Vegas 2
    Crysis/Crysis Warhead
    Call of duty 4/5
Team Fortress 2 (only $10 atm)
L4D (always a good time filler)
possibly Far Cry 2, even though i think it's crap...

For me, TF2...until I bought L4D. I haven't played TF2 since, though I would like to get back in soon.

Left 4 Dead when you're bored, TF2 when your hand itches.

Although it isnt a 08 game, if i get REALLY bored that even l4d and tf2 dont satisfy me... i have my CSS :D

An oldie but a goodie: Deus Ex

Dead Space? Technically not an FPS but a lot of fun if you can get past the claustrophobic over-the-shoulder camera.

whoa! I wrote the above while Vicious was still posting! My comment about Dead Space is totally unrelated to the post above, although similar. :)

Bioshock awed me with the graphics and idea of cool "magic" for awhile but I never got more than 3 or 4 hours deep before uninstalling it. It just could not grab me like Fallout 3 and Dead Space did.

You can, as other has mentioned try CoD5. The singleplayer modus is not as good as CoD4, but the multiplayer is on par.
Dead Space is also a very good game.
BUT if I have to recomend one game right now it has to be Mirrors Edge. That game just blew me away and it's just as good if not better the second time you go through it :D when you have really learned to master the controls.

Mirrors Edge... I liked it but it was short, and I did not see the replay in it too much. Once you knew where to go that was about all there was to the game.

The downloadable content due for it looks really cool though, its not story mode stuff its pure time attack but the stage design is crazy, something reminiscent of Portal.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl (Actually 2007) and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (Summer 2008). Both are great games, and plenty of Mods to keep you busy.

Here's some pics of Clear Sky:
