I'm trying to find the best DX9 Graphics Card, as I don't want to jump into DX10 just yet. Could someone give me some ideas as to what I'm looking for. Both ATI and NVIDIA cards would be great. I think the best ATI card is the x1950xtx, but I can't seem to find that anywhere. As of right now, I don't know what the best DX9 NVIDIA card is. Is it the XFX 7950GT Extreme w/ Passive Cooling? Anywho, I'm looking to put one of these babies in a system I'm making. I will likely put in an DX10 card later down the road, but for now, I want to be safe with DX9. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'm looking at cards with 512MB of Video Ram. Thanks.

the best notebook dx9 graphics card from nvidia is the nVidia GeForce 7950GTX especially in SLI mode
-
Well, if we're talking about desktops it is one thing...
But if you are referring to notebooks, SLI doesn't have too many advantages...its fast but not worth the price. Plus, you are not going to be able to upgrade the GPU in 99.9% of all laptops. -
Oops, yeah, I meant desktops. Sorry, gotta switch this over to the Desktop Forums. Sorry!

if desktops...then the GeForce 8800 Ultra is the fastest...though it is only just a overclocked GTX........
Edit...oops, thats dx10...ah well........the 7950GX2 -
yep what deedeeman said....
but agp slot is 7800 i think... -
The fastest AGP cards are the 7900GS (only available overseas, however - here in the US we only have the 7800GS) and the X1950Pro. On PCI-E, the 7950GX2 is technically the most powerful "single" DX9 GPU - but it costs more than an 8800GTX! The generally accepted "best bang for the buck" DX9 card is either the 7950GT or 7900GS.
Note on your original question: Obviously no passively cooled GPU is going to be the fastest one available - I can't imagine passively cooling a 7950GT! Talk about zero overclocking opportunity - in fact, it would likely have to be underclocked not to overheat. -
i never known.... there is 7900 on agp... just doesn;t sell here. -
