    Comp Specs:

    ASUS G1S-A1
    Vista-32bit
    2GB RAM
    Intl 2 Core Duo T7500
    Nvidia Geforece 8600m GT

    I recently bought Battlefield 2: bad company off steam for the absurdly low price of $7 and as much as I'm enjoying it, find it to be running a bit sluggish. Now I know my computer's a bit outdated, but I've turned the resolution as low as it can go, as well as the graphics, and I forced it to start with Directx9.

    I'm currently using drivers 265.66 from laptopvideo2go.

    Any suggestions on GPU drivers or other things to increase performance?

    Thanks

    My friend doesn't get more than 30fps on all medium settings with a 9600GT desktop card, so you are probs stretching that card, I'm not sure how much drivers are going to help you....

    ^^^LOL, he's looking for drivers not a $1200 laptop. And if anybody considers a Qosmio I'd wait for some in depth reviews to make sure this model isn't a dud like most of them have been.

    The 8600. GT is going to have some trouble running BC2 at medium or even high settings. I'd say stick with the latest drivers. Upgrading your RAM wouldn't hurt and would help to reduce stuttering but it isn't going to improve FPS much.

    Also, make sure your notebook is plugged in and set to maximum performance. You may also try to overclock your 8600m GT a bit, although with caution.

    Adjust the following settings in the settings.cfg file:

    [Sound]
    Quality=low
    SpeakerCount=2
    [Graphics]
    Bloom=false
    HSAO=false
    DxVersion=9
    RenderAheadLimit=2

    If you still get poor performance, you could also try setting the Overgrowth and Undergrowth settings in the same file to low.

    265.90 quadro are the best right now for bc2 and for everything else. Get it over laptopvideo2go with a modded inf :)

    My old Asus C90S which has the same GPU and slightly slower CPU only got between 15-40 FPS, usually at ~25 FPS with every graphics setting at its lowest or off, and 720p resolution. I don't think you'll get much out of optimum drivers since BC2 is CPU intensive and more likely why it feels sluggish for you. You'll probably get better results OC'ing your CPU.

    I do have to say that since I put 8GB in my laptop BFBC2 runs smooth as silk.

    I run this game on a GT 330m. Medium gets a tiny bit sluggish, maybe around 25-30. Low is absolutley perfect though some things are a bit bland. I play it on the second to lowest resolution. I prefer to play on low online because better framerate=more fragtastic killing!

    edit: whoops, put 300m in there for a sec lol

    How are the 265.90 vs the 260.99 for a 360m?

    Not so much a difference in framerate as in smoothness. I can't explain it really. I thought 4GB was adequate but with 8GB it's like this thing runs super smooth. I run at mix of medium and high settings though but at native resolution 1680x1050.

    I've got a Core 2 Quad Q9200 @ 2.4GHz, GTX 260m, Momentus XT, and 8GB DDR3 1066 G. Skill RAM.

    Thanks for the info. I was researching this online, and actually wondered how does RAM increase gaming performance? From what I read, and my own understanding is that, the extra RAM won't increase your top end framerate count, but it will help sustain the average framerates that can already be generated without it constantly dipping. So for instance if you average mostly 30 fps yet have dips down to 15 fps, adding extra RAM will negate the dipping effect and hold steady at 30 fps more often. Is this the case? When you say smooth does your system now hold a more steady constant FPS than it did before? and can you verify this maybe by observing the framerate count through FRAPS with the extra RAM and without? I know it's a hassle, but I'd like to know for sure before I spend $150 on more RAM. Thanks...
