    There are many but it depends on the types of games you like.

    For first person shooter fans its call of duty 4 in my opinion.

    For MMO it has to be world of war craft

    For RPG- Mass Effect or Oblivion

    For 3 person- Devil may cry 4

    For RTS- hard to say I say world in conflict

    It depends what typs of games you like. Agian this is only my opinion

    man these treads are popping up everywhere, i'd say Bioshock. I still need to play quite a few more recent games like COD4 and TF2.

    This topic is very broad, and you aren't going to get any answers based on the way you worded your question. 'Best' is a very difficult word to use for any situation, it really shouldn't be used.

    Back to the original question I would have to say my favorite game (note I didn't use the word best) is RE4 and seeing as how it is only $20 I can't see how you could go wrong. Make sure that you pick up a controller for it and install some of the mods for better textures.

    Obviously there is no "best game"

    However there are popular games and there is some consensus about which games are good.

    When it comes to RTS company of heroes and world in conflict are hot titles

    When it comes to RPG's Oblivion, The witcher and Mass effect are ttles a lot of people seem to be playing.

    For FPS, bioshock, team fortress2 and COD4 are pretty popular

    For racing games GRID , GTR 2 seem to hold the crown

    these are just a few from the top of my head. This list is far from complete. also, not all these games are really new, but all are still very popular

    Action (TPS/FPS) Hitman 4 Blood Money
    Strategy (RTS/TBS/Tycoon) Rome Total War + exps :D
    Adventure (RPG) Baldur's Gate Saga
    Driving (sims and other) Test Drive Unlimited or GTR2... cannot decide :D
    however this list consists of what only popped into my mind when i 1st read the question by OP :D

    Personal opinion would have to be Diablo 2 for rpg, Half-Life 2 for single player fps.
