Hey Everyone,
Just got my E1705 and been playing BF2 alot so I was using my desktop mouse for that. Ihave a Logitech Mx 518 Gaming mouse, but I get tired of getting back to my house and not having my desktop hooked up to a mouse because it is on my laptop.
So... I wanted to get a new mouse dedicated for my laptop, and I was wondering whats a good mouse to get for gaming. I really like my Mx518 but I don't want to buy a duplicate I want to try something new. So what do you think?
Games I play:
BF2
CS 1.6
CS Source
HL2
Soon to play Fear![]()

Alright, this brings me back to my glory days of serious cs 1.6.
If you want a responsive, good looking mouse: Buy a razer.
I have had a few logitechs and currently I have the viper (they dont make anymore, I believe).
I have used a diamondback, and it is great, and their new copperhead looks sick. Both have great DPI, but are costly. Completely up to you. Good luck.
Heres the link to their website, they are great mice.

I would stay away from fatal1ty's mouse, because I think hes a major tool. -

Agreed, Razer's are THE gaming mice. I have had the Diamondback for over six months now, it is awesome.
Get the Copperhead, that's the latest version.

Logitech MX310 gets the job done. Used it so much, I even wore out the color on a few spots

I like my G5, it's pretty awesome and packed with gimmicks

Pardon me if I sound ignorant, but does a laser mouse with high DPI really make that much of a difference? I mean, I'm never in the middle of a game Far Cry or HL2 with my Microsoft optical 5 button mouse, thinking, "If only this thing had a few hundred more dots per inch, I could nail this guy!" How does say the Razor (which does LOOK cool) really change/improve your gaming, especially enough to justify the cost? I get high FPS and I'm able to smoothly drag the reticle everywhere I want to shoot, so what am I missing out on? Thanks and sorry for sounding noobish.

My Razer had conflicts with the drivers for my flight controller. It's an obscure issue that probably won't affect you, but I thought it should be mentioned. I prefered the feel, weight, and driver compatibility of the mx518 over the Razer. Still, the Razer is a fine mouse.

I love my MX1000 -- I can't imagine using a mouse with less than 10 buttons now.

The dpi thing will make mouse movement a bit smoother, but you're right, it won't be missed. Infact, i think sometimes it makes it too smooth. I returned an mx510 because (w/the logitec drivers) it moved way too smooth, lol.
One big thing to concider when buying a mouse for gameing is, "do you use your fingertips or wrist to aim?"
If you hold the mouse like a brick, get a bigger mouse, because you're going to use your wrist to aim and need something big to hold onto. The mx500 and ms mice etc, are good for you.
If you hold your mouse with your fingertips, then you are going to use your fingers to aim, in which case you need a smaller mouse. I have an mx300. You can get any small mouse now adays, as long it's not a cheapy, and it will work great.
The dpi has to be at least 600dpi. Reason why, is you don't want the mouse to skip while moving the mouse in fast movment. It has to track "the whole" movement. Some cheap mice, freak out if you move them too fast.
So, i suggest you experiment with that first. Then base your desicion more on personal preferance because all the new features in mice are all marketing bs. You just need a solid one. -
On that train of thought:
I am a fingertip mouser, and as such really prefer my mouse to be light. I've tried cordless mice before, but found them way to heavy for my mousing style... Does anyone know of a light cordless mouse to go with my laptop? I can go corded, but where's the e-machismo in that?
totally off topic:
thinking of picking up an xbox 360 controller for my pc to act as my gaming pad/flight controller while travelling. anyone use game controllers for flight sims? i understand a flightstick is ideal, but thought this would make a worthy substitute with it's analog sticks and oodles of buttons. thoughts? -

I hooked up a game controller to my laptop for flight sims. It's ~not so great IMO. A bit confusing, and setting the controls gave me trouble.
Joystick is what to get. -
Personally, though, the reason I bought my Razer Diamondback is because of the shape and size. I like small, standard-shaped mice, and the Diamondback is exactly that. It's incredibly comfortable and easy for me to move with just my fingertips, and the buttons are fantastic. The mouse itself is also very light, so it's quite easy to move. This all makes using the mouse much more natural for me, which means I don't have to think about that when I'm gaming.
All in all, it's not a huge difference - I used to get along just with fine with a generic AOpen ballmouse - but it's nice to have. -
I hear ya. I have a swanky Saitek HOTAS for my desktop, but was thinking of something very portable to take with me when I travel... It would be really funny to break out an X52 HOTAS on an airplane. -
As far as a small cordless mouse goes, I just use the standard microsoft optical notebook mouse. The thing is cheap (costs about $30) and works fine for my purposes (I haven't noticed and accuracy or smothness problems). But it is all personal preference I guess.

My mx300 has a little weight in it. I just poped it open and snatched the weight out. It's half as light now. A lot of people that use there fingers to aim, do this to theire mice. Try a small one like the mx310, or equivelent, and pop it open and unscrew the wieght. -
Do urself a favour and check out the Logitech G7 mouse. I did and simply had to have it. It's as accurate and responsive as a corded mouse but it is wireless. It also comes with 2 rechargeable li-ion batteries and a charging dock. The antenna can be removed and inserted into a USB port on it's own. Very handy for notebooks.

Let me give you a golden tip:
A mouse is totally personal. Really, believe me. Your hand shape is totally different so I think you must go and touch the mouse and look how it feels before buying it...
I thought: MX510... very good gaming mouse...So it was a bit cheaper so I bought it... Now I have a little pain in my hand because it doesnt fit my handshape. Afterall I think that I could better buy the Microsoft Optical.
I think that you must go and look for a mouse. And if it is 2000 dpi or 1600 dpi doesnt make a difference at all. I agree with Cygnus.
