Best Graphics for an MMORPG

Which MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) has the most impressive Graphics?

Hrm... I'm not sure. LOTRO was a terrible MMO, had extremely annoying voice overs and ... well... meh

I'm a fan of WoW's artistic style myself. Though I'd say Lineage and LOTRO both have better graphics. In some ways Guild Wars does to...

newer MMO's tend to have better graphics provided u can run at full setting.

 

If you're a fan of the wow style then WAR: Age of Reckoning is coming out beginning of June.

Doesn't look like much atm because it's in beta but it's been said that there will be advanced graphics. That's what i'm going for anyway (+ the amazing gameplay)

 

Age of Conan will have the most advanced graphics for awhile ala Crysis (DX10), but that doesn't necessary mean it looks the best.

I hear LotRO has the best combo of art direction and graphical fidelity, but I am an EVE fan myself. OH! And Everquest 1, those graphics were wicked awesome.

LOTRO has the best graphics from what i've seen, including all of the advanced options like AA and AF. Looks good!

 

No it's not. It won't be released till at least q4 08. If we're lucky.
A beta should have MUCH better grahics than what warhammer has right now. Much better. I'd expect more out of an pre-alpha than what they've got right now.
I could understand locking it for beta testers, but that also defeats the purpose of beta testing. And you'd figure they'd have some super nice gameplay footage for PR purposes by now.

 

Age of Conan?

 

I know some will disagree but for best graphics I think I like world of warcraft the best. Not because it has the highest resolution textures, or the best weather effects, but because it has wonderful environmental designs, they are all for the most part very unique and well made and the world itself is very large.

For a MMORPG I think this is far more important than any actual visual graphics related to visual quality.

Also I'll tell you another one that strikes my fancy that is much less known about or played. Phantasy Star Universe. I have played and loved all of the Phantasy Star Online games, with a very strong Japanese/Anime like influence and very good graphics I love the way these games look, and I totally low how they play. Its eons different and better than most MMORPG's I think.

Its a pick up and play MMORPG which is unique, you dont need countless hours to do high level content, you can also solo alot of things, and its the most social of any of them since you have lobbies and things to chat in, and even game rooms.

As for any game period to me game play > graphics. I really dont like the trend going on that good graphics means a good game and I feel in several ways they have sacrificed gameplay because of this.

 

Argh! PSO/PSU is a bastardization of the best console RPG series ever made! I tried playing it, but couldn't stand it. Makes me cry a bit cause I LOVED the original Phantasy Star games (on the Wii VC now!) and they've completely dumped a great, unique series to make a weird half MMO.

 

Yeah I can see where your coming from because I loved the originals too. However they did the same thing with Final Fantasy and Warcraft. Both of those games were different in there original form and transformed later into MMORPG's. Some people were like OMG WHHYY!!! at first but I think over time people just learned to look at them as separate games with common lore/characters and not a actual sequel. You have to do the same with PSO/PSU.

Right now, AoC is the leader by a decent margin although to be fair its still in beta. Lots can happen between now and release. (good and bad)

Yes, WoW. Some people can't understand that WoW's graphics are based on it's art style. There are many things that could look better in it, but if they did a more realistic style, it would kind of ruin the game.
It was a cartoonish style game as an RTS and they carried it over perfectly fine in it's MMO. Changing it to look like AoC would... I dunno, be a big negative to me and a lot of other people who enjoy it's personality.

 

Well, to be perfectly honest, even with AoC graphics, WoW's "personality" is more memorable in the 347294021497193841829341 hunters/rogues/<insert FotM massively overpowered class> who join the group and party kill it with their repeated stupidity (at max level even, and despite multiple patient and polite attempts to help them NOT do it) than the graphics...

The graphics were indeed tuned to match the outdated look of the old RTS games... and I agree this has some appeal... but in no way does it qualify it to even remotely compare with AoC graphically.

I have some appeal to the original EQ1 graphics (pre-luclin) but nonetheless will not compare it to AoC...

to be quite frank, Lineage 2 completely embarassed WoW and all its other contemporaries in the graphics department... (its flaws were elsewhere) and even it does nto compare with AoC.

 

Although i HATE the game EQ2 looks damn nice.

 

thank you psxsage, if it wasn't for being a broke mechanical engineering major in college i would still be playing EQ2. i absolutely LOVE eq2's art style, despite their recent trend of taking basic armors and recoloring them to make them "new" sets of armor. but it's all good, if/when they ever finish doing the revamp of the skeleton models we'll see a plethora of new armors that'll make WoW players go... well, "wow"

 

I think MapleStory has the best graphics.

Anarchy Online is supposed to be updated with AoC's graphical engine soon. Assuming they both utilizing the graphical engine equally, I would vote for AO simply for its style. Sci-fi pwns fantasy graphics.

 

AION: Tower of Eternity too bad it wont be out until Q3

 

Eve Online is definitely up there.

And yes, after trying the beta of AoC, it's graphics are really good. If WoW was less cartoony it would have been more immersive and kept my interest in it.

 

Sword of the New World

 

I wish EQ2 was half the game EQ1 was....

I played the EQ2 beta... and went back to EQ1 thinking "they killed the sequel with graphics".

 

EQ2 is doing a skeletal revamp which hopefully will bring in a lot more immersive gameplay, but i still love it. they revamped the horse models to look more like EQ1 models.

Warhammer Online gfx wise looks to be a lot more mature/less cartoony version of WoW graphics. In fact, if wow had those gfx and less 8yr old players speaking 1337 24/7, i'd probably be there now
