Where is Diablo II LoD? That is still the best RPG.

^ But it's not a MMORPG...
WoW disgusts me. -

I disagree. If you count Guild Wars in which the village is nothing more than a forum, I count Diablo II LoD.

ive been playing mmorpgs for 3 years the main game ive played was Star wars Galixies i would say 2 or 3 years ago it was the best mmo out there you had 30+ professions plus you can mix and match diff professions and you could unlock jedi which would take about a year and then..about a year ago SOE (sony online entertainment) put in the gayest patch in the world which turned the game into crap made it to only 8 proffesions including jedi as a starting profession, 90% of my friends and everyone in the server quit and once you hit cl 90 there is nothing to do but to stand around. Ive played Wow i think its a good game but im not really into it ive played D&D online that was really boring all you do is quest.. then more questing and then it never ends but im kinda getting out of the mmo scene. So i dont know i prollywill vote for WoW its an overall great game but im just waiting for blizzerd to put in a patch that will make the game crap dont think it wont happen, if it happend to a great game like SWG it might happen to WoW to.

The Lord of the Rings Online has a shot at this title , awesome game thus far kind of a WoW wannabe though.
-
I love Guild Wars. didn't like wow much but here of late I have been hooked in Oblivion, don't know why I couldn't stand Morrowind.
-
Lord of the Rings has a huge history and story base that was created way before WoW ever came out. In a way, WoW is the wannabe here. -
I think that WOW is the best mmorpg out there so far...

I've never played any of those games. The only one I ever played for any length of time was Dark Age of Camelot for about 2-3 months.

I'm not big into RPG's, but it seems like half of the kids at my school are addicted to WoW. I have one friend and that is ALL he talks about. And he's the reason the majority of the kids at our school play. I'm staying away from it, I think cocaine is a better addiction then WoW

I'm still baffled that people include Guildwars as an MMORPG. As one of the posters said above, it is as much a MMORPG as Diablo II is. The only thing the game really has going for it is that it has no monthly fee.
World of Warcraft is only a really good entrance MMORPG. The difficulty within the game is so much lower than other games that an experienced player will most likely become bored after a short period of time (Took me about 6 months before I just stopped playing... no withdrawal symptoms). Even though this game is not for me, I'd still recommend it to anyone who hasn't played the genre before as it is very well polished and a good introduction to concepts found in other games. WORST community I have ever encountered. I started Everquest when I was 14 and would have never considered behaving the way half the people in this game do. Not to mention the overall skill of most people is much lower than what I am used to and felt like I had to pull the group almost the entire time (Thank god I was a priest, my roommate had nightmare groups when I wasn't around).
I played Everquest for 7 years. I'm not one to complain that the glory years are past or think the game went downhill beyond the 2nd expansion. Everquest is still a very quality game; however, it is very dated. Every game will eventually lose out to new technology (yes, even World of Warcraft), but Everquest has had an ability to linger better than most given how long it has been around for. Probably one of the best communities around, very respectful, knowledgable, and highly skilled.
I tried Star Wars Galaxies, but the game wasn't for me. It was good for some, but the environment and gameplay seemed really... dull. I may not have given it enough time (Only tried it because I was on station access at the time).
I played Final Fantasy XI for about 6 months. Even though I played it for the same amount of time as World of Warcraft, when I quit I would be willing to play it again. I love lore and in terms of storyline, Final Fantasy XI is the clear winner. Square-enix knows how to make a good story (although recently it seems they are in a slump /moan FFX and FFXII). I loved the dependance of others, it felt like you were needed to do your part of the group or you wouldn't succeed. The class system was also the most unique I had encountered. The replayability of the game was astounding given that you can play any class at any time with you character. Stats and races actually made a difference too. Community can be rough with half speaking one language and half speaking another, but at least they gave translator tools.
I spent another year of time playing Everquest 2. Arriving at the same time as World of Warcraft, Everquest 2 did not have the polish that World of Warcraft had. That said, I feel Everquest 2 was a better game than World of Warcraft **for me**. Community was about 10x better than World of Warcraft, more skill was needed than World of Warcraft, and the game feels like it had more promise than World of Warcraft. The major downsides of Everquest 2 vs Everquest was that the world felt tiny and the class differences was watered down at best. Really they should have just merged all classes into the base class (ex. Troubador/Dirge --> bard, Inquisitor/Templar --> cleric).
I am currently playing Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. This game is probably the least polished game launched that I have encountered (I know there is worse). However, the game has more promise and soul than the other games combined (well minus Everquest). Currently the game is unplayable by many and others are hesitant to play. Many classes, but they are all unique in their own way. Vast lands to wander across. If you are willing to wade through a lot of bugs, I would recommend it. If not, I'd say look here in about 6 months and you should find a polished game ready.
Have no encountered the other games on the list, so I cannot comment on them other than that they never did anything to draw my attention. -
