Hi i just recently purchased the MSI EX 625 which has the ATI mobility HD 4670 and im pretty satisfied with the way it handles most video games. i was just wondering if there are any MXM I or II cards that offer better performance at this time? and also im somewhat disappointed with the fact that it only allows for a max of 4GB of ram. especially with 64bit becoming to prominent, but anyway i was considering purchasing some OCZ or corsair ram, is there any real need to do so? or is the original ram that was provided with sufficient?

You can probaly use more then 4gb's of ram. Did you try to use more then 4gb's or just read a spec sheet? I would try to use more then 4gb's i know many laptops i have worked on said 2gb's max but i put 4gb's in them.

Does it have 32bit or 64bit in it? Also OCZ ram is one of the best, I have 4 gigs in mine with 64bit vista and it runs really well, I can play alot of games on max settings.

What sucks is if you have 32bit it will only use alittle over 3gigs, 64bit uses all 4 which gives better preformance overall.

well obviously MSI only has drivers that support 32bit but ive been reading that 64 bit is possible. so im considering updating to 64 bit very soon. if so do i just ignore the drivers from the MSI website all together? and Nacr05 have you tried using more ram liek trippey says? maybe 8 gb?

The 1722 supports 8gigs max. MSI site has 64bit drivers they say 32bit but are also 64bit, Thats how I got all my drivers for the 1722 ID2. You will notice better preformance with 64bit and 4 or more gigs of ram. You should upgrade the cpu to a P8600 or better. That would increase preformance too.

The P8600 will be fine in the EX625, no worries there, not sure about the heatsinks though.

My P8600 works super well, I overclocked mine to 3GHz and it never reaches 50c.

The 1722 has a much better heatsink then the ex 625, so i could understand why you can overclock with very little problem

well that is according to people that have reviewed it on this website. notebookcheck claimes that its maximum temp is 39 C which isnt that bad. so im thinking if i purchased a P8600 there shouldnt be much of a difference

yes but those are also MXM III so they are slightly larger and will not fit in my EX 625 i think currently the best MXM II video card is the 4670 if im not mistaken even though i heard the 8800M GTX was also MXM II

The 8800M GTX is definitely not MXM II. Have yet to see a HD 4670 so that is uncertain. The best MXM II that is relatively easy to purchase is 9600M GT. 9650M GT and 9700M GT are rarer, while newer cards might not be sold separately yet (GT 130M).

Is it possible to get the part directly from MSI? For example I know that the MS-1651 is being upgraded to a 9800m GT. Since I have a ms-1651 equipped with a 9600m. Can I buy the GPU and new heatsink from them?

I dont see any point in getting more than 4gb of ram if youre just going to be gaming.
