Ok, I am installing as many games as I can on my new Dell 1520. Here is my question. We all have times when we travel and just can't get a network of some sort. We still have cravings of playing a First Person Shooter or Military shooter that has a multiplayer feel with good "bots" without the worry of a network connection...

What games are best for this...?

I have heard FEAR is really good. However I didn't know if you could play a multiplayer style game with bots? I heard BF2 is good but only 3 maps for single player. What about ARMA?

Your opinions would be super appreciated.

Check out War§ow. The bots can put up quite a challenge. I guess you could also check out CS:S because that does allow for bots last I checked. I think you will find it difficult to actually find a multiplayer game with "good" bots that are of just the right difficulty.

Man, it's been awhile but when I used to play the earlier Unreal Tournaments, their bots all seemed to be quite good. Just a great game, tons of maps and weapons...

UT 2004 is a great "sub" for UT3 now. Bots in the game are pretty "decent".

Actually in BF2 you can play against bots in about 10 maps instead of only 3 maps... I think in BF2142 you can only play against bots in 5 maps though...

The bots in both bf2 and bf2142 are really bad. Try f.e.a.r. or Counter Strike: Source.

Yea the bots in BF are kinda bad. I prefer Quake 4 ;) over FEAR though. Don't know why but I keeps getting bored when playing FEAR...

If you're into fast paced shooters give the Quake series a try :) From Quake World to Quake 3 they're all great. Haven't tried Q4

You should try Quake 4 if you like the Quake series... I really like the singleplayer missions in Quake 4. Didn't try the multiplayer though but I'll assume it should be quite good.

In Quake 4, you can download a thing called stupid-anoying bot that can be found at this site:

    http://quake4.filefront.com/file/Sabota8;52204

you put the downloaded folder in your Quake 4 folder, and when you launch Quake 4, you click mods, then the mod called "sabot8"

Along the same lines: Titan Quest and its expansion Immortal Throne ;)

Unlike with Diablo II you can take your single player character online, so you could pick up items for your character(s) or your friend(s) character(s) and then show them off and trade them online when you have a connection. :D

Quake 4, UT2004 (you can also play invasion, which is funner than bots), Quake 3, CS:S, Half-life: NS, C&C:3, warcraft 3:TFT, and battlefield

and you can also play diablo 2 without transferring items :)

I downloaded and played ARMA. It is a freakin resource hog. I wasn't able to get 30 fps (w/fraps) until I downgraded the screen to 1024 and utilized the NORMAL graphic settings. Nothing no high. The other higher settings are playable in the middle teens (11-15) but it gets annoying fast. The bots are pretty good. Just a word to the wise that a 1520 with t7300, gt8600 and 2 gigs of ram is put to the test with this game...

    Thanks for all your responses,

The CS:S bots cheat. They have no strategy, but they auto-aim like beasts.

if you want a fps game with nice graphics and good offline play - try rainbow 6 vegas. personally it is one of my favorite games, not for the single player but for the "terrorist hunt" mode in which you can select the location and battle low/medium/high amount of terrorists. i think its a blast and its an awesome realistic challenge!

    g'luck

If you can, try the DEMO of ARMA. It is a hard game but really fun. Folks are making customer missions that are DYNAMIC!!! Means they are different each time you play. That is what I am talking about. I actuall purchased the game now, I figured it is worth 40 bones to play. Just remember it is H3LL on your machine. But it's worth it.

    Best wishes,

    SXO792
