I'm getting wonderful laptop with a ATI video card, me not being a fan of ATI would like to know what is the best NVIDIA MXM Type II video card. Please do not turn this into a Nvidia vs ATI debate thread.

What notebook?
-
The best card you can possibly buy will be a 9600M GT, but you'll be wasting money since you're already using a 3650.

Yes, what notebook did you buy?
(And what's wrong with amd?)

I am purchasing the Acer Aspire AS6530-5753

I LOVE AMD, I just don't like ATI products. I had about three ATI cards before and they always have driver problems and incompatibilities with certain programs. I've never had a problem with Nvidia (except the cooling fan stopped working on one card and it fried itself) -
Why dont you just get a better notebook to begin with? Its a waste of money upgrading straight out of the box.
Oh and wait till you actually recieive the notebook before thinking of upgrading. -
Just buy this MSI instead.

the best MXM-II Nvidia is 9650GT
-
If the GT 130M and 46xx are under MXM Type II, they would best the 9650M GT.
-
They've been solid for a long time... and when they haven't there was 3rd party drivers. Omega Drivers http://www.omegadrivers.net/ -
I year ago on my "slightly" older computer, I forgot what it was, but it was "comparable" to Geforce 57-5800. Oh man I hated that card, it probably the worse ATI I ever had.
-
comparable to FX5800 would be Radeon 9700... a year ago u say?
-
Thought last mxm-II was 8600gt ... and rest of the new ones all mxm-III.
Or I missed something again -
You did
96xx cards are also MXM-II, and there are rumors of mobility radeon 46xx being MXM-II as well -
9650M GT is currently the fastest MXM-II, but unless you like paying through the nose, the 9600M GT will be your best bet.
If the Radeon HD 4000 series and GeForce 100M series cards stay on MXM-II, they could be potential upgrades BUT if they move to the newer MXM form factors of MXM-A or MXM-B (which are completely incompatible), no dice. -
That sounds about right, it might of been 9600 Pro, that sounds closer. By the way, just clarify things, I am going to give this ATI card a try. The 9xxx series is from what 2003? I'm sure their products have improved since then. I'm going to get the Nvidia card a few months later down the line. But I want to know what card to get when I am ready.

Also makes one wonder with the way they keep ramping up the clocks when will ati and nvidia give mid-range cards a 256 bit memory bus. -
GT 130M is based off of the 9600M GT, not the 9650M GT. HD 4670 should beat the 9700M GT. 256-bit is the current high end. When that moves to 512-bit, I guess 256-bit will be the new mid range..

Sorry to resurrect an ancient thread, but i recently applied AS-5 into my Mythos with 9600M GT. I was cleaning the GPU after disassembling the system and saw a sticker in the GPU which said "MXM-B".
Is that different from MXM-II, and if so, how it differs?
A Zepto rep recently promised me that they would sell mxm cards separately in the future, but that may just be the famous "rep talk" again.. -

They do sell mxm cards separetely. MXM2 9600M GT and 9650M GT
-
1. Surprised yours says MXM-B. I haven't heard of the 9600M GT making the jump. MXM-A and MXM-B are the new form factors of the MXM standard, and are completely incompatible with the MXM-I/II/III/IV/HE cards available now. I wouldn't worry about it, because...
2. ...upgrading to the 9650M GT and paying through the nose to do so is POINTLESS. You'd be spending upwards of $300 (at least) for 50 more core MHz, 75 more shader MHz, and the same memory speed. You can get those kinds of gains just by overclocking your 9600M GT!! -

Actually prices are dropping. At end of March they sold the 9650M GT ddr3 for 225 pounds now they sell it for 215 pounds and the 9600M GT for 160 pounds. Prices include shipping and tax. Still would be nice to see those prices drop another 20.
-
True, prices are dropping, but I'm not about to be the guinea pig and try to upgrade to a 9600M GT on my notebook.
I'm pulling great benchmarks and performance with my OC'd 9500M GS, and if anything, I'd drop the cash on an X25-M.
