Best RTX 3060 Laptop?

Yes, I do realize that the power constraints on laptops, especially in regards to new Nvidia GPUS, is ridiculous. I'm just wondering if anyone has any personal experience or knows of a laptop with a 3060 that isn't completely gimped. Most of the ones I see are 80-85W but the mobile RTX 3060 can go up to 115W.

All of Lenovo's Legion laptops except for the 7 Slim have full-power 3060s.

 

Just an FYI... They're are a good many of us who are giggling like schoolgirls when using our horrible, gimped, 30 series laptops. You'll also find many 20 series buyers that are extremely happy with their gimped laptops. There is a negative push here at this site about the delta between desktop and laptop performance that hit full stride as soon as pascal left the building and it has never relented.

Don't fall prey to that negativity. I can run cyberpunk in the 70s and most games are hovering around or at the refresh. Yeah it's only a 5.8 lb laptop but I haven't missed those extra pounds. At all. Yes, a desktop will do it better. Don't. Care. I have more power than has ever been in a laptop before and I like it. I like it a lot. I would absolutely buy again and the only regret I have is that I let the negativity here sway me into putting it off. Big mistake.

All that said it you can stand thinking for yourself and are able to ignore the people who want to tell you that being happy sucks the 3070 is the price/performance value play in the 30 series line. I'd start there.

Biggest problem with a full power RTX card is cooling it.
Ya didn't even consider that did you ?
*Most* laptops have fecal drizzle for cooling.
It doesn't matter what brand laptop you get, consider the cooling first, then the GPU/CPU.
Look at reviews, 99% of them will say the laptop throttles badly and runs at 90C or so quickly, too quickly to game for extended periods.
I'm lucky, mine runs cool, some with the exact same laptop as I have run into cooling issues.
I can actually turn up the power on mine and it still runs reasonably cool (yes mines unlocked both cpu and gpu).
It's honestly luck of the draw.

 

It's research, not luck. I have a 3080 in my laptop and no cooling issues whatsoever over long gaming sessions. None. No throttling. That's with at all the power ngreedia will give you and it applies to all owners of the same configuration. You can of course buy a laptop that will quickly throttle on thermals; that aint right and I greatly dislike the fact that it exists and can happen. It doesn't have to happen though; a little research will quickly locate multiple laptops across the 30 series that have adequate cooling.

After all this research not one person had mentioned Lenovo and they didn't even pop up once in all my Google searches like MSI, Clevo, Alienware, etc come up. I can't actually find anywhere to purchase them at this point as I'd like the i Series with the Intel. I am interested though, looking at them I cannot possibly imagine how notebooks that slim could run anywhere near full TGP unless they have some groundbreaking cooling innovations, which perhaps is possible from a company as big as Lenovo?

 

Wait they solder 8GB ram? Um, why and doesn't that mean 32GB dual channel is out of the picture?

Lots of low performance companies solder ram.
It's up to you to do the research on who doesn't.

 

Sorry guess I should have clarified, I can't find anywhere IN STOCK to get them, those are all backordered. And yeah, I have researched and I can't find one company that sells a laptop with an RTX 30 series that solders their ram so that makes it easy to filter out since Lenovo is the only one.

Hm, strange, when I look every single Legion laptop is backordered. Oh well, I'm not buying a laptop with soldered on ram anyhow. Great site though, thank you I had forgotten about them.

There is no 17-inch Legion 5 Pro. The actual screen on this model is 16 inches with the overall chassis being closer to a 15-inch laptop. Lenovo offers a non-Pro Legion 5 with a 17-inch display, but it's 1080p resolution as opposed to the Pro's 2560x1600. The build quality is also not as good on account of it being entirely plastic, whereas the Pro has a metal top and bottom panel. MicroCenter has the 17-inch in stock for $1,299, which is $100 off, but I believe you can only purchase in-store.
