I love polls... so I had to vote SC/WC just because of my fondness for Starcraft. Actually, all of the interfaces are ok for me except for C&C. Never was a fan of everything running up the right side - seems like it took up so much space. Although nowadays it doesn't seem so bad what with all of the widescreens around.

BTW for OP, it'd be helpful also if you had screenshots to remind us of all of the GUIs.

YES! i agree, i haven't played games in a while.

i vote for C&C. probably because i'm such a huge fan of red alert. but of course IMO the learning curve for C&C is quite low, so you play the game and quickly get used to the things around it.

^^^ I LOVED RA and RA2!! Especially the cut scenes!! And I agree that the learning curve is definitely lower. I hear C&C3 is very good, though I don't have it. Plan on it though.

Hey, do we have OP's permission to also expand this to include what people's fave RTS's are, as well? (EDIT) I decided to start my own thread about this!!

^^^ No doubt that RA2 is great. But Starcraft is definitely #1 of alltime to me, it's got everything.

Don't you guys have problems selecting units in C&C3? I think it's much harder than in starcraft/warcraft..

I luv RA2... especially the spy, which normally me and my friends will trade techs and in the end, gets chronobombs, they are the best turtle cracker (remember the france cannon). have you try attaching bombs to V3 rockets (well u really can with some good timing), it + some good amount of damage to it oso..
not that fond of sc or wc.. maybe there s too much resource to bother... which i suck at, but i ll try sc2 that's for sure.

SupCom. after playing for a few months I find it very difficult to play any C&C or AoE game. those interfaces just feel......."dumb" is the only way I can describe it

and the its expansion is suppose to have an even more streamlined interface

SC only has 2... I'd say give it another try? SC still holds up not-suprisingly quite well nowadays.

yeah I was surprised how easily I was able to get into SC after being used to modern RTS's.

However RA2 IS the best RTS of all time.

After CnC 3 I actually have a faint glimmer of hope that EA can pull off RA3, although they'll never do as well as Westwood could have done.

AoE2, i have been playing so long that is second nature to me.

Warcraft 3 is similar and am pretty used to that as well

I had issues with almost all of these.
I loved SC, but wow selecting only 10 units at a time really brought my strategy down to a crawl. Not sure if that counts as GUI (I think so, because it has to do with how much room there is in the bar), but its my main gripe with SC.
C&C... erm only really played generals, but I went over to Best Buy the other day and sat in front of a computer playing C&C 3. I played one level and never once had to search for a button, or try to figure out what an obscure picture was. That's pretty good in my book.
AoE II was probably too simple, but it is the standard by which I compare all other GUI's. If I try to play SC, for example, I often find myself hunting for the idle worker button...

All in all, I'd say Command and Conquer based on my limited experience with Tiberium Wars, but if any of you have played it more than I have (not hard), feel free to correct me.

yep, what really annoys me, is when they change idle worker from period to tab. it gives your little finger on your left hand something to do other than push shift. and i'm afraid the only thing my little left finger can be programmed to do is push shift :p

Yeah, a lot of folks have a problem with only being able to select 12 at a time in SC, but I remember reading that it was a conscious choice by Blizzard to do that (after receiving similar criticism in WC2 for only being able to select 9) because of not wanting people to get into the habit of just grabbing a ton of units and throwing them at the enemy and instead having to consciously work at organizing attack squads and such. Or something like that.

I think that it's amazing SC's interface is still getting some votes for being OVER 9 YEARS OLD!! Certainly there will be some improvements in SC2's interface, including an idle worker button I'm sure!
