heh, all 3 of those. Edit(For some real info): RoN (Rise of Nations) has more high level strategy, having to take over cities and manage more resources. CoH is all about tactics, so if you like the heavy strategy side of things, probably not the best for you; more about unit facings and micromanagement then feeling like the leader of an entire army. Sup Com is the ultimate for grand strategy (well, short of Sins of a Solar Empire... also great... yeah, get that one too), with 1000s of units, lots of tech, and huge maps. All are extremely good, but have thier own flavor.

hey your 8600 is only 128 mb? i guess it should play fine. what's your processor? that really helps too. 3 gigs of ram is really helpful.

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War Platinum is pretty fun. I also like Sins of a Solar Empire for long strategic wars.

Yeah, before you get Supreme Commander I'd check out the processor. It should handle it fine, because mine does (1.83 Core Duo), but I've never tried anything larger than a big 4 team match.

Command and Conquer 3 man, and get the all in one package with kane's wrath. Amazing graphics even on low and medium settings, and its gameplay is reminescent of starcraft, fast paced, but with more strategies involved and a deeper unit/combat system. Theres 3 unique races to play around with depending on which strategy you prefer: force/stealth/speed. And its also like a mini world in conflict with tons of superweapons and powers. Go read the review @Ign or gamespot before you make your decision. Its definately a game that you can dive into. I really recommend it.

I know tons of people who swear by Supreme Commander, but I could never really get into it. I suggest downloading the demo before you purchase the actual game (typically what I do with most games anyways!).

Command and Conquer 3, Dawn of War (and it's expansions), Starcraft and Warcraft are all great examples that have been given.

The thing about Supreme Commander is that if you're playing online you're fine, but the AIs that it comes with suck. The only reason the campaigns are even remotely challenging is that the enemy always starts with an established base, so you're fighting for your life for a while. If you play 1v1, you can beat a so called "supreme AI" after a few days practice (if that).

It's worth looking at the 3rd party AIs if you want to get into Supreme Commander.

your specs are similar to mine. i have the gt though. the best i can tell you from my experience is, campaigns get BIG towards the end, and fps drop. usually i am ~20 fps at the end in xp but in vista it's like ~12-15 fps. the game is still very playable @ 20 but when it starts dipping below ~17 you notice stutter and slowness.
