I got a i5@2,26ghz, and a 5870 graphics card from ati. What settings should i use for gta4 and prototype? I dont want fps to drop below 20.

Prototype, highest settings. Your MSI will eat that up very nicely. GTA IV no idea.

It shouldn't lag. You should be able to play it at max settings with 0 AA, but 16 AF with resources to spare.

I played a quick mission and my low FPS was 35 and high of 90 with all settings high.

Are your drivers updated? Do you have heavy programs running in the background?

First of all, you never said all other games run fine.

Now, are there any patches for the game?

Ok so I set the Resolution to 1680*1050, with 4X AA and HIGH for both, with V-Sync off like your video. No overclock, standard clock 700/1000

I got 50 FPS Low and High of 70 FPS.

So that's the performance you should be looking for. Whatever the problem may be.

I use Fraps and just watch my FPS. The mission I did was the one where the Hunters were first released and they kept dropping down into the building where you have to try to kill 5 of them and eventually blow up the whole building.

Well Prototype is a cpu intensive game, I have seen people talk about disabling some HID items in the task manager giving them a huge performance boost.

Hmm I saw Ken at GenTech posted GPUZ of the HD5870 on the MSI. It has the correct 700/1000 clocks.

So I suggest installing different drivers. Don't know what else could be wrong.

It is probably that HID issue that Torian just mentioned. Solution copied from here

On my laptop at 1600 x 900, all High, AF disabled AA maxed plus 8X in the Nvidia Control Panel I get lows of 35 fps, mostly a constant 60 fps and highs of 80+ fps.

FRAPS, unless you are recording video, does not really reduce performance at all. You can use it to monitor your fps etc.

You should update drivers. Prototype is not a heavy game by any means and should run great as other posters have noted and provided personal feedback. :)

Fraps does not kill fps unless you are using it to record real time video in game.

Edit: Just noticed ryzeki already said the same.
