I've played World of Warcraft since it's release and I've quit multiple times but I seem to always come back to it's solid gameplay since most other MMORPGs lack in one way or another.

Right now I have all my attention on Aion as it looks and seems to play great, I just hope there is some nice gear and end game content (raids).

However there are a few others I'm looking at like Warhammer Online, Lord of the Rings, Age of Conan, and even WoW's new expansion.

What are you favorite MMORPGs and why? I like both PvE and PvP content. Any suggestions?

WoW is pretty much the generic 'go-to' game in the MMORPG world since its so refined after years of patching.

Aion seems interesting, there is also KotOR. Guild Wars 2 is also around the horizon.

I played LotRO for quite some time (taking a break this semester...), and really enjoyed it. A lot of people compare it to WoW, but I would say the community is a bit better and the game play a little more refined.
What is really the best done is the environment-if you're a Tolkien fan it's an absolute nerdgasm.

Star Wars The Old Republic is currently in the works by Bioware, no news when it might release though. If you like MMOs you should definitly keep your eye on it.

Star War: The Old Republic is easily the most anticipated upcoming one, IMO, check out IGN or Gamespot for videos and previews. I think we even have a thread on it here somewhere..

I'm done playing mmo's until swtor comes out. I will be totally focused on this once it does. I'm finally going to be able to be a Sith in an mmo not just a Dark Jedi Council member.

Goonsquad in swtor will likely be the biggest Goon guild ever created. We have thousands of players organizing currently for the main guilds and have 100's of pages of posts about the game.

It's going to be huge in beta/launch for us.

I played beta for Aion and imo, its just about as good as WoW but more pvp based. My choice for the upcoming mmo to play is Champions Online because it sounds pretty awesome. Also, since you say you usually quit and come back to WoW, I suggest playing Guild Wars because it is really fun for the first couple months when you haven't finished all the missions.

I don't know about 'best' since it's highly subjective but I am enjoying the following currently:

    EVE Online
    Lord of the Rings Online
    Champions Online

    I played these ones previously:

Tabula Rasa (I somewhat enjoyed it but offline now)
    World of Warcraft (got bored)
Age of Conan (could have been a contender but Funcom ruined the player experience)

And here are some I'm interested in when or if they go online:

    Star Trek Online
Star Wars The Old Republic (I actually think this won't be very good or will disappoint a lot of people)
    World of Darkness
    Jumpgate: Evolution
    Firefly
    Fallout

I heard that too. But that's why I include the 'if' caveat and there's always hope. :)

If you enjoy PvE then I would highly recommend Lord or the Rings Online. It does MMO PvE exceptionally well, can't really think of any complaints. For PvP sounds like Aion may be worth the wait.
