Hi All, could someone please recommend the best drivers for the 260M on Win 7 and/or Vista 64 bit? The laptopvideo2go.com drivers are all missing .inf's right now, so looking for updated drivers is a royal pain in the , making it hard to try them all out easily.

186.61 or 186.62, whichever number looks sexier to you.

Personally , i would recommend u get the 186.81 drivers... 195.62 work allright but they dropped my benchmark score by 400 points...

I have exactly the same problem.

But, Dirt 2 crashes sometimes with the 186.82 drivers and works perfectly well with 195.62. Also, you get GPU-accelerated Flash with the newer drivers, and CUDA V3.0 support if you're interested.

I haven't really noticed any change in performance with the newer drivers except a ~500 point drop in 3DMark06 scores, but in games that makes hardly any difference.

Id use newer drivers, but my problem with anything newer than the 186.82's, they don't throttle down in windows, which kills battery life and creates excess heat. The 186.82's throttle perfectly. And perform great as well in games.

Sagers seem to like 186.81, while in my testing my G51 didnt, 186.82 gave me better score and downclock correctly under 2d, but i think on Sager either works, at least i remember some sager users saying, but better to test some, maybe both and the latest.

I like 196.34 beta. It's the first driver I've tried after 186.81 WHQL that isn't garbage.

Isn't that only for desktop GPUs and IONs? I don't see a notebook 196.xx driver anywhere on NVIDIA's website.

I Like the Dox 195.62, which gave me huge gains from others I've tried. With that said, I don't remember which ones I've tried lol (it's been quite a few). Soviet, have you tried out the latest Dox release? Just wondering how it compares for you, but I'm curious enough to go grab that beta now, thanks for the notification.

Edit: I tried out the 196.34 and 3dmark06 went from 5616 to 5497. I'll stick with the Dox driver for now, but the 196.34 definitely isn't bad.

This was with a 8600m GT, but I thought I'd share. Also do different cards ever have drivers that work better for them than other cards? I should redo all of this on the Asus G51J at some point.

try this fix... it undervolts the GPU effectively... Also ensures ur clocks stay in low 2D unless there is hardware accleration like when playing videos or games...

Sean, I think you forgot the link.

I've tried the dox-modded 195. The screen was somehow darker when I was playing Left 4 Dead 2. The tunnel of love is dark enough without that messing with me.

I've tried Dox's take on the 195.62 driver when he released and I am not a fan of it. The stability issues with 195.62 as a whole are the big turn off for me, not some miniscule performance gain. Like I've said before, just because someone mods a driver doesn't mean it magically turns good. I don't even know why Dox bothered with 195.62. I can bet you if he modded 186.81, people would praise 186.81 even more and not even give a smile towards 195.62. Ad populum plays a role here.

I've tried many of the major 19x driver releases and so far they haven't given me the consistency I am looking for. Also, keep in mind that benchmarks are not the end all deciding factor for drivers. If you like playing the game 3DMark06, then that's great. Keep looking for the best driver that's going to get you the most numbers after pressing a button and sitting through various real-time rendered scenes. But I like playing real games. 196.34 beta in my opinion still has a few sharp corners here and there, but it's the closest driver Nvidia has published to 186.81 WHQL in regards to stability. I am going to be hot on my seat when it goes WHQL and when the official notebook version of the build is released.

@Soviet: What sort of stability and consistency issues do you get with 195.62/19x.xx drivers? I am aware that I only tried 3dmark06, but I don't have all day to run tests and play games. With that said, I'll take your word and go with the 196.34. Which games have been better for you so far?

The 19x drivers gave me hell with Source games, especially in CS:S. Engine crashes due to texture errors, undrawn particles, etc. GTAIV had weird triangles in the most random places in the city on 195.62, but the performance was surprisingly good. For my emulated console games, there were no problems. But all in all, it's all fixed now in 196.34. I've been running this driver ever since I installed my GTX 285M and everything is running without fault or hiccups. Performance wise, they're not too bad. It's certainly not as good as the old 185.85 WHQL, but it's snappy, and that's what I care about.

Now I see why I didn't mind the 195.62; I don't play source games much, and my computer can't run GTA4 (owned).

I wish it could be as simple as the latest one always being better.

I got 85hz on a crt without doing much. Hit winkey + p, choose projector only, right clock the desktop and click resolution, click advanced settings or something, then the refresh rate is under the monitor tab.

lol Yes is did mean that one. Get that one and change the inf. If that does'nt work then you will have to change the code manually for your card.

I play Battlefield Bad Company 2 at all high no aa or af with hbao enabled i get perfectly smooth game play in online and offline and the game looks great. This driver give a boost to all games across the board. Try it and see what you get. :)

P.S. if you get a bsod with that driver try the method used on page 1 of the thread where they tell you how to change the hardware id for your card in the inf file. Good Luck
