I'm a totally new NVidia user so I have no idea what the deal is with official/tweaked drivers. Which drivers are going to give the best performance?

If you have a 7800GTX, chances are that its performance is so high that you absolutely don't need to try to get every last drop of performance by tweaking your drivers. You'll never notice anyway. :)

Do people actually get real performance boosts from using tweaked driver sets? I've tried some of the Omega drivers for my Desktop over the years, and never found them worth the install.

Small boosts are present, otherwise no one would bother with tweaking the drivers. On rare occasions you can get a big boost.

A good reason to upgrade your drivers is because, whether or not they provide any optimizations for better performance, they will often include fixes for games.

I can say this, I used to have a difficult time getting F.E.A.R. to run well. Now, I can play with EVERYTHING on max (except FSAA at 2x and AF at 4x) at 1920x1200 and average about 30 fps. The only things I have changed with my system are a small overclock, and new drivers. I doubt the overclock caused that dramatic of a change, so I assume the new drivers just have much better support for F.E.A.R. So for newer games new drivers CAN make a pretty big difference, it's up to you whether or not they are worth the install.

    I too use laptopvideo2go drivers
