What do you mean upgrade in the same of are they just the graphics card? are you asking what a driver is or are you asking what they are drivers for. And please use proper english instead of IM-english. Makes it easier to find out what you want.

I'm not completely sure what the drivers are for, I just recently ordered a notebook with 8600 GT, and I've been hearing about "drivers" is that something I have to do or is it just a modification. Please help, me if I need to do it, let me know, I'm kind of a newb when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Drivers are basically the interface between the gpu (or any hardware) and the computer simply put. They are basically a translator between the gpu and the computer which interprets commands for the gpu to do. As time goes on you can improve the performance of the gpu by tweaking the code of the driver. Driver tweaks also fix specific or general stability problems in games, often even listing specific problems it fixes with specific games. Drivers also deal with bugs and glitches. So it usually a good idea to update drivers until you find one that works flawlessly and you are content with because always updating to the latest driver is not always beneficial.

Stock drivers for many things that come with the computer are often somewhat outdated, for some its no big deal but for others because the driver is old there may be certain things wrong with it that causes crashes or low performance or various other problems.

Wow thanks, I think I kind of understand now. I appreciate it! So with the new laptop I ordered with 8600 GT, would I need to update the drivers or should they already be up-to-date?

Theres an easy website which can detect which of your drivers are outdated. Usually the most important drivers to update are the gpu and sound driver. But basically every single of your hardware devices has a driver which can be updated. Bluetooth, webcam, mic, basically everything. I would recommend updating your gpu drivers once you get your laptop.

OH lol! Yeah sorry. Driveragent.com scans your comp. It requires you to install a plugin but its legit, its not spyware or anything. You have to pay to have it automatically get you the updated driver but thats no big deal. And don't crazy about trying to get 100 percent updated, some of them dont even have or will never have updated drivers that will be found. The website isn't fool proof.

You can easily track down the drivers yourself dont pay the money for it.
