For the best driver, it mostly depends on your graphics card, since different drivers sometimes work better for different cards.

    Driver Installation
1.Download the driver and save it on the desktop
2.Go to the device manager, find your video card under display adapters, right click the video card, and click uninstall
3.Restart your computer, log in, and start the new driver installer
    4. When it's done, restart again

The newest drivers are the best for the newest games (they're usually optimized for them).

"proper" way is more than that Cblaze, but your way works.
to minimise any chance of conflicts or anything else, the full way is to remove driver and driver software using the uninstall driver in device manager. uninstall physX using add/remove programs, and restart in safemode.
run driver sweeper (google is your friend) and remove nvidia display and ageia physX.
now restart to normal, and instal the new driver.

now then, "best" is subjective. ive found for my card 181.xx/182.xx drivers and the dox versions of the same drivers to give the highest 3dmark scores, but the new nvidia 186.03 drivers gave me much better in game FPS, but lower 3dmark scores. i think most people with low end graphics cards (9200 and 9300 especially) agree from what ive read.
for 9600 and above i think most people found 185.xx drivers better than 181/182.xx drivers, but i dunno about 186.03 and 190.xx drivers for those higher cards.

    hope that helps.
