    Hey guys,

I' wondering which drivers are the best for my gtx 285. I've been using the latest drivers from nvidia, but lately I'v been getting hangups and the display drivers stopped responding issue. This with the latest whql and the latest beta.

So I've been looking around a bit and it seems that the 197.16 drivers are being recommended, ut I can't get them to install with the modded inf (perhaps I'm doing something wrong). It seems strange to me that the 266 series drivers shouldn't be the best but this is what i read at the kobalt forums (of which I'm not a member):

Consistent 'Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered' driver crashes

    Any insights much appreciated :)

Are you running default clocks or OC? Because latest betas have some issues with OC settings seems, at least on what i read around.

My 9800m GTXs in sli and my GTX570 are fine at their OC settings thought, so dunno (currently im using 267.59 hacked on both m1730 and desktop).

I take that everytime you install a new driver, you completely wipe the remnants and disable any programs that loads OC profile on start, yes?

Started happening with a safe overclock, then clocked down. Still happened, even after reboots.

Any idea why 197.xx drivers are recommended?

Yes, no problem with temps. The problems seems to have gone away, but I'm still interested in opinions on which drivers are best for the 285m and why.

So how did u solve this? I'm facing that problem a lot =/.

Something is wrong here then, i can't use the 266.58 without having that problem, i don't get why it started happening since it wasn't happening.

try the latest ones released today HERE

if you keep having problems with various drivers the idea is to work your way backwards trying each one for a few days until the problem stops.

It's not necessarily a driver issue... this can also be a sign of a dying GPU (happened to me with my 260m).

I stopped overclocking it to much. After upgrading to 267.59 my system has been very stable. I had a lot of problems with the driver crashing when using sleep load - BSOD - but these drivers seem to work fine.

As of today I've installed the latest WHQL drivers linked above
