    Best free 3D games?

    Hey everyone,

I REALLY did my homework and search the forum thoroughly, so please don't flame me. :p
Anyway, what are some freeware 3D games that LOOKS GOOD? Perhaps something that will actually utilize the full potential of 8600GT. Any kind of game is fine. I know that I might be asking for the impossible since game development is a pretty costly process. I guess cheap games will do as well.

    Thanks!

I will keep a list of the games suggested so far for others who are interested as well (most should be vista compatible):
    War rock
    FEAR combat
    Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory
    Trackmania Nations
    War§ow
    Silkroad Online
    Cube & Sauerbraten
    America's Army
    Command And Conquer Gold Edition
Tom Clancy Ghost Recon DEAD! Anyone know a working link?
    Far Cry
Prince Of Persia Sands Of Time
    Rayman Raving Rabids
    BMW M3 Challenge

It seems that ads in Far Cry, Of Persia Sands of Time, etc. can be eliminated by running FRAPS.

I'm going to have a hard time convince them that the blood is actually tomato sauce or something.

Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory, WorSaw, Silkroad Online i recommend.

WorSaw has a no blood option and silkroad online is a WoW type game that doesnt really have blood in it.

Unfortuantely there arent alot of free games that fully utilize the 8600m except maybe FEAR Combat which you said that you arent allowed to play.

I'm actually tempted to play FEAR now after being humiliated by you guys...
    Are those games vista compatible?

    Thanks a bunch.

By the way, why is FEAR rated for 18 and above? How "bad" is it?

Blood are fine as long as it's not too excessive.
I guess I should say that my parents isn't THAT picky. However they don't like R rated games and stuff like that.

I updated my original post to keep track of the titles. Thanks for the suggestions.

Many of my neighbors and old classmates were in a very similar position. These days, most games rated M have a gore or blood filter option that will turn of those aspects of the violence. It really ruins the visceral experience when you take it away, but vicera don't add anything to gameplay, so I don't see why you couldn't use those options. I think F.E.A.R. MIGHT have a gore off option, etc.

    Hmmm...Free... Eve-Online has a free trial! :)

you already payed for america's army (taxes).

it has a huge production value, and a steep learning curve. you literally have to sit in 3d classes and take tests before you are allowed to play online. its probably one of the most realistic combat simulators around. definitely the best free one.

Blood is like.... Shooting someone, and there being blood stains on the wall. FEAR Combat is rated M mainly because of the real FEAR. The real FEAR is rated M for Blood, intense violence, Language. So on the date.... just put... 1/1/1977 thats what i always do.

Kinda bloody? Only KINDA ? wtf!?

Chuck a nade at a guy's feet and watch him EXPLODE all over the walls floor and roof, with chunks of his body all over the place and his head rolling on the floor! And I'm shure EVERYONE has run at a guy and shot em in the face with a shotty right?

What exactly do you mean by free? Legally free games right? I'm not going to give any site references, but just so you know, you can get any game for free if you know where to look on the net.

Btw, how young are you? I know here in the US that you can legally buy M rated games from any retailer at 17, and I've never seen a parent crack down like that about something so small on any child over 13 or 14.

To be fair, Australia is somewhat known for banning certain games. The Postal series is a good example.

Also, the ESRB isn't that bad of a system. Whine more about the MPAA, imo.

Im my hometown, Greenville, S.C. a wallmart got into a large law suite for seeling an M rated game to a 15 year old. So every store there asks for I.D., but you can still give them like a Student I.D. for High School, or like a driving Permit, what ever. As long as its I.D. they will sell it to you.

When you start treating consumers as the enemy, they will eventually get pissed and rebel. Hence why we are in the current mess. RIAA goes all Joseph McCarthy on everyone and people get angry when they get caught in the cross fire. If the current trends continue, groups like RIAA will soon flounder and disappear. Everything is slowly shifting toward open-source, Web 2.0 style user-generated content. And even if it doesn't, people will still do what they've always done and get their content any way they want. (Not that I condone it)

FEAR Combat takes a lot of toll on my laptop at 1280x960 at high settings and 2x AA. It will probably start slowing down if your laptop can handle 1680x1050. Just make sure everything is turned on, including the anisotropic filtering in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Don't bother with War Rock, Enemy Territory and Silk Road. My laptop plays them with everything maxed out and still get over 30 FPS. And that's a GF Go 6600 handling those games. They won't test your GF 8600M GT.

BTW... You don't lie?! What world are you living in?!!!! O_O It's not like God's gonna send you to hell for lying to be able to play FEAR Combat. And yes, I'm 15, just like you. It's just that I live in the Philippines. I'm a college freshman. XD My cousin in Canada who's 16 didn't believe that I was already in college. LOL.

    @ masterchef341

Yeah. I'd have to agree with that one. I've played AA last year. I'm not sure if there's a new version. I played AA ver. 2.5. Definitely very realistic. I had to do those damn obstacle courses, parachute drop training, etc, just to be able to play and kill other people. LOL.

Um......it's not that "bad" I guess...

The clone soldiers just say the F-word and the S-word a lot. I love that. When I throw a grenade into a group of them, they are all like "OHHHH **** RUN".

Then there is all the blood. You can completely blow up enemies using the Shotgun or Repeating Cannon. :D

If you're considering fun over graphics, you should try Enemy Territory. It's like Team Fortress, but way better. I love playing as the mortar man. XD Well, just reinforcing it since everyone else mentioned Enemy Territory. LOL.

Patrick, good on ya for not going against your conscience. While I may or may not agree with your philosophy regarding violent games, I give you props for taking a stand for what you believe in. As long as what you believe in is what you believe in, and not just what your parents tell you to think (while it's good to respect your parents IMO).
