Gears of War / FarCry

Here's my vote for the best (PC) game ever: Darklands.
Never heard of it? It's an RPG that pioneered both real-time tactical combat (a la Diablo and Dungeon Siege) and open-ended "sandbox" style gameplay (a la GTA). Plus it had a unique angle: instead of a fantasy world, it was set in Germany of the dark ages -- the only difference being that in the game, all the folk superstitions like demons and kobolds, witches, alchemy, and divine intervention were real.
And it came out in 1992! But it had most of the things that Diablo would popularize five years later. This is the one game that I'd love to see remade with modern graphics and interfaces -- it could be a classic all over again. -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
I'll always have a special place on my hard drive for the wing commander series.
-
Dune II.
Civ. Take your pick which one.
X-Com/UFO I -
PC : CS 1.6 , CS : SOURCE , HL 2
PS2 : Shadow of the Colossus , God of War , Resident Evil 4 , Ico
X box 360 : Gears of war -
starcraft
that is all -
Havent really gamed as much on the pc in last few years....but starting to get back into it...no mention of the best character ever made for the sega consoles.... SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
For the ps2 its gotta be the pro evo series...
For the pc its too difficult to many different styles of games and each with there strong contenders..
But the ones that stick out are Doom and command & conquer...
and for the sega game gear Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion
and for the gameboy Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins...where wario was introduced that was such a good game! -
Halo, Command and Conquer Generals (zero hour rocks), Total War (especially mideaval 2), Battlefield (take your pick, I like Vietnam because of my family history, but BF2, and 2142 are all good), the hitman series, although panned for the most part, is one of my personal favorites.
There is no BEST game, because its like saying what your favorite food is. (well, burgers, are good, but ice cream tastes so sweet, but candy's good for the road and pizza's good for parties, but a nice steak dinner is good for a date...etc, etc.) -
Fallout and Fallout 2 for the PC.
-
Half-life 2: Until Crysis comes out, this is the only game I consider next gen. Sure games like Gears of War are fun and shiny but they don't really do anything as revolutionary as the physics worked into the engines and gameplay in games like HL2 and Crysis. Physics not only look cool (ragdolls falling, junk and debris flying around after a large explosion) but they have an effect on gameplay.
Halo 2: Singleplayer is so-so, but Multiplay has the best matchmaking system and balance.
X-com UFO defense: The battles were so frickin addictive. Aside from graphics and turnbased gameplay, the most realistic game ever made. The only thing that life points determined was how long it took a character to bleed to death if he sustained a fatal wound. Even you can get someone over to patch him before he dies, it'll take weeks (in the game) for him to recover and get back into combat. -
starcraft and boodwar are the best ever
-
PC: Starcraft + Broodwar when it first came out and I was a gamer back then lol.
Zelda still holds a place in my heart though. -
The best game ever would be a tie for me because I have spent roughly an equal amount of time playing each. Starcraft and counterstrike; both of which I have played competitively. Addictive, both amazing looking at there beginnings and played by many so therefore plenty of competition.
-
Half life 2 and counter strike source.
Starcraft. Age of empires series. -
STAR CRAFT IS THEEEE BEST, WITH BROODWAR!!!!!
then comes Battlefield 2142!!!!
just my 2 cents -
Close Combat 3 and World War 2 Online
-
hmm well for me its a four way tie
Ultima 4-9 (i love the series so much i cant bare to split them)
System Shock 2
The Longest Journey
Starcraft -
Hands down The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for Wii. Followed by Ocarina of Time.
-
mrXniick switch those two around and you've got it right.
OoT got 10/10 from like every single PC game reviewer. part of my vote for best -
Metal Gear Solid for PSX
-
I actually hadn't played OoT on N64 at all, never picked it up until I started goofing with N64 emulators. Then my computer died after playing the game obsessively and finally getting to the point where you're grown up and I just haven't had the heart to pick it up again... That game is cursed when it comes to me.
-
-
I would go for SUIKODEN 1...
it's one of the 1st RPGs that I've finished... Has 108 Characters to choose from... well not everyone is playable... but imagine an Asian Chef in your party and has a WOK as his weapon... that is the bomb! -
Link 1313... You have to take into account the time it was released, and the standard in which games were reviewed.
No one loves OoT more than me, but twiglight princess save originality perhaps is the superior game. Play both of them and you will see what i mean.
Twiglight princess did get it share's of 10/10s (game informer, egm etc) but even reviewers that gave it less than perfect scores (matt cassimasina from ign 9.5) he states that it is simply the best zelda game in existence. Standards for game rankings have changed, therefore it is much harder to get a 10 now than it was back in the n64 days. Believe me, i am not in ANY way putting down OoT. I loved that game and still do. -
World Of Warcraft.
-
Off the top of my head, games I have (some still do) enjoy(ed) immensely; Duck Hunt, Mario Bros, Bonanza Bros (I don't care what people say), Streets of Rage 2, Theme Hospital, Pro Evo 6, Flat Out 2, 2 Zelda games, 2 Golden Sun games and 2 Advance Wars games all for GBA, Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles Snes, Street Fighter II Snes, Mario Kart Snes, GBA and N64 and finally Sonic Megadrive.
The best? Secret of Mana -
As a few others have said, I can't pick just one.
TESIV: Oblivion
F.E.A.R.
Deus Ex
Chrono Trigger
Mega Man II
Halo (PC)
Metal Gear Solid (I enjoy the original and the GC Remake)
Sonic the Hedgehog III paired with Sonic & Knuckles (EPIC!!!)
Final Fantasy V
Xenogears
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
X-COM: UFO Defence (My first PC game ever and I intentionally misspelled 'defense' as it seemed to be the Euro version) -
-
C&C red alert 2. I must have spent months playing that game. Pity EA had to come along and screw the franchise up.
Bring back Westwood!!!
Also very partial to a few rounds of CS:S.
Oh and all three gta games for the ps2. -
Without a single doubt in my mind, in all my 10+ years of playing every system and many games.
Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy III/VI, Super Mario World -
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The reason I choose this game is: no bugs at all, beautiful graphics for its time, great gameplay.
I played it as a child with my friends, and it was great. -
c&c red alert...........
over the modem, good times.. -
Hmmm, guess my age will show.
I will list all those games that qualify as "life sucking"
Taipan (AppleIIe - 1982) First time I got into a game, started a life long addiction.
Mechwarrior (PC - 1989) Great breakthrough graphics.
Master Of Orion (PC - 1993) Great concept and playability.
Tekken (playstation - 1995) Awesome party game.
Quake II (PC - 1997) Made great LAN partys, loved hearing the crys of agony across the room.
Gran Turismo (playstation-1997) Breakthough driving game. *3
Battlezone (PC - 1998) Most addictive ever - Awesome net play. Great chat and pre-game area online. *1
Tribes (PC - 1998) Best net game ever. *2
Call of Duty (PC - 2003) a wonderful all around FPS
*-top 3 most life sucking ever, and probably my fav 3. -
Chrono Trigger (SNES,) Xenogears & Suikoden 2 (PS,) Civilization IV (PC.) I also have to join in the Red Alert Lovefest. I spent a lot of time on it in High School.
Add: The Metal Gear Solid Series -
river city ransom >>>>>
-
Final Fantasy VII
I haven´t been able to find a more exciting game ever...
The story, characters, music, it just rocks. -
GTAIII, i've played that game very very much with only cop hunting
That game is very humoristic -
OT: Circa69, Awesome paint job on the lappy!!!! -
Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2
Its been the biggest demon for eating my time ever. An incredible game and ever so addicting! -
thanks for the comment on the paint -
DOOM 1,2,3.
Quake 2.
Wolfenstein 3d.
Elder scolls:Morrowind -
rainbow six vegas WAS the ownage, I WAS addicted (couldn't concentrate in school because I was thinking of going come and continuing the game). But then I beat the game. Now I'm bored. Still it's a really good game, but I'd have to go with counter strike source
-
Atari 800 and Defender.
I played it for days. And I didn't have to use quarters, just plug in the cartridge and go forever. -
System shock 2 is where my vote goes. Me and my friends have spent so many hours playing that game, it just sucks you in. I see influences of it in all new sci-fi type games, it really did lay the ground work for everything in that genre. Its just such a beast, I see them shelling out brand new games that don't even come close to system shock 2.

Nobody thinks the best all time games are zelda and ff7? Those games are legendary and to buy em noe is not 50$ like oblivion or farcry, but 400$ in good condition!
Best game ever.
