I have ordered a powerful laptop ; What game would anyone recommend to best blow me away with the super (non 3d) graphics for a good start?

Crysis, Metro 2033 and such... Ain't played any of them, but those are always "GPU test" games
-
Crysis 2, make sure you DL the Ultra Upgrade DX11 patch.

The witcher 2 will be sure to challenge you´re rig! And then theres Metro 2033 and Crysis 1/2 : )
-
For me its much more demanding that easycake Crysis 2 + High resolution textures and Dx11. -
-
GTAIV with the ICE ultra-realism mod thing.
Heck even vanilla GTAIV maxed out will give your laptop a run for its money. -

If you can wait until October from the reports and hype it seems like Battlefield 3 will be the next benchmark it FPS graphics.

I finally played Metro 2033 and it is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric games I have ever played. Granted, I played it on a desktop with GTX 480s in SLI, so not a fair comparison to notebooks.
Its levels are also quite small and linear but still a VERY visually impressive game. -
My vote goes to Crysis 2.

SCREW THIS! Just get duel 6999m or duel 585m and run Battlefield 3 like a champ!

Rage is a tech demo, its cartoony, wait till doom4 before slinging crap around. But until then BF3 is utilizing DX11 to make stunning graphics, something rage doesn't support.

1. Install The Witcher 2
2. Select Ultra
3. Turn on Ubersampling
4. Cry -
Not sure about demonstration, but if you want to tax your system to the most, easily ARMA II. Set draw distance to maximum and all other settings and pray that your system forgives you.

Crysis 2 with Dx 11 max settings or Witcher 2 with latest update then start scratching your head. -
Here's a screenshot in 1080p with fps in Pure Ultra setting, uber and all enabled, ..9 fps even OC'ed to 830 (cry)..

The next are with no uber, no aa, no ssao, vsync off, etc.., still 1080p and OC'ed, high decals, very large texture memory size, no texture downscaling, vignette on.. All the pics became blurry though after uploading here..

Arma 2 all the way

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Witcher 2 Ultra settings you going to feel like your new GPU is something from the 90's

A bunch of these games don't demonstrate graphical power so much as they demonstrate how a badly coded game can run like garbage on the best systems.
-
All good tips - perhaps I should have narrowed my question. Rather than straining due to poor graphical technical problems (or future cards needed etc), I would like a game that will look better than anything I will have played in a while ; it has been a year or more since I last played anything on a high setting.
-
Witcher 2 does not appear to be poorly optimized, its just that certain gfx options slaughter performance.
-
I just wanna add some screenshots of Metro 2033 at normal setting with fps from my G73SW. This is still at 1080p utilizing DirectX 11. Adding tesselation would deduct 5-6 fps in Metro 2033.
Also a shot from TW2. So far both games are running well at 1080p, just have to play with the gfx option on the game's menu.
