In anticipation of the arrival of my v4000t(see sig), I want to find any and all games that are well suited for widescreen play. I already know about the awesomeness that HL2/CSS/DOD bring to widescreen, but I haven't heard about anything else to speak of. What are your thoughts?

BattleFront 2 has a good widescreen res, looks great. I believe that Doom 3 has a patch for widescreen.

I also play Far Cry in widescreen, although it is not 'true' widescreen - it uses the widescreen 1280x800 (or 1680x1050 in my case) resolution, but the image is still stretched.

I don't know too much about that one...I get the impression it's Battlefield for the Star Wars universe. Have to check out the demo when my system comes ;)

It's too bad Far Cry is stretched, I was really looking forward to seeing the beautiful scenery in 16:9. You say Doom 3 is true widescreen though?

I played Far Cry in 1920x1200 and it wasn't stretched. FC has several native widescreen resolutions. As long as your notebook's screen resolution matches one of FC's native resolutions, you should be fine.

Now, if you wanna see a stretched resolution, try Doom 3 in widescreen. I used all the patches and everything still looked stretched out. I ended up going back to the regular 1600x1200 standard resolution.

A few more widescreen games: Unreal Tournament 2004, Chronicles of Riddick (fantastic, underrated game), Half-Life 2.

Chaz -- I think this is the first time we've disagreed on something. HA!! :p

LOL - maybe it just looked stretched at 1280x800....I think if you put it on a higher resolution, it doesn't look so stretched.

Yeah - Doom 3 can have a widescreen res, but it looks stretched. That game is not that great anyway. :p

There aren't that many games out there with a dedicated widescreen option, but I think we'll definitely start seeing more.

A lot of games are starting to have widescreen res included standard. Lots of games I have played already allow you to select standard 16:10 ratios like:

    Medal of Honor Pacific Assault
    X-Men Legends 2
    America's Army
    Starship Troopers (2005)

I just got the Call of Duty 2 single player demo, and I must say it looks like it delivers the immersion and epic fun of the first one and its expansion, with better graphics and AI. Oh, and it's got true widescreen (ran it in 1440x900 on my Inspiron 9000 w/ go6800--had to turn some settings down unfortuneately (2x AA and medium everything else), but it still looked great.

I just beat Call of Duty 2 in Widescreen. I highly recommend it if you aren't sick of another WWII shooter.

I wish battlefield 2 did widescreen properly, I play it on my desktop with 2005FPW monitor (1650x1080) and end up just playing it 4:3 with the bars on the sides.

Battlefront 2, on the other hand, detects the widescreen automatically and looks great right from the get-go.. If only there was some combination of all the best features of battlefield 2 with the stuff in battlefront 2.. best. game. evar!
