Wondering if anybody selling notebooks in the US came out with anything better than the ASUS n8s in terms of the graphics department.
Why do I care?
14 inch laptop is portable enough that I can transport it around, and if i really want to play a game, I can just hook it up to a 22 inch monitor. Toss out the 17 inch bricks. I mine as well get a desktop. Much cheaper, better performance.
Or should I just wait till Windows 7 is out? And hopefully a good combo of size/weight and graphics power is out?

15.4" Sager 8662 with nvidia 260m is the current best on market for gaming ad graphics at that size range
-
At 14" the Asus N81Vp-C1 offers the most pop. Zepto offers one that is nicer looking and configurable but with not as good of a GPU, Nvidia 9650. You don't have to go 17" to get a laptop with a powerful GPU, quite a few 15.4" offer top tier GPU's.
-
The best GPU for a 15.4 inch laptop would be the Geforce GTX 260M while the best graphics for a 14 inch notebook at the moment would be the Geforce 9650M GT until the ATi Mobility Radeon 46## series who up.

sager np8662 ftw.

Loool that's great I love when people break in with FTW

Best so far:
Asus N81Vp 14.1" - HD 4650 GDDR3
Sager NP8662 15.4" - GTX 260M GDDR3 -

The sager is considerably better remember that, and the weight difference really isn't that much... it all depends on how your budget... Btw what is your budget you might want to fill out the FAQ

I'm wondering how well the HD 4860 GDDR5 will be compared to the GTX 260M GDDR3... should be able to fit that into a 14.1" and it will destroy the HD 4650 GDDR3.

-
If LG can fit the 9600M GT GDDR3 into a 13.3" form factor, then theoretically, so can the HD 4860 GDDR5 due to 40nm manufacturing process and similar thermals to the 9600M GT (65nm).
-
Or does it really have one? Hmm, 256bits + GDDR5 seems overkill, as they still haven't done that on a desktop card. (The 4770 has 128bits GDDR5)
EDIT: NVM, the 4830 and 4860 are the mobile 4770 -
The 4870 is 256-bit w/ GDDR5. The 4860 is 128-bit w/ GDDR5, every other mobile GPU from ATI uses GDDR3
-
Unfortunately, there are very few laptops (that we know about) on the horizon slated to be equipped with the 4860. Our only prospect right now is an Asus which get's worse and worse as more and more information is leaked.

MacBook 2.4GHz - 9400m GT ! ! !

I feel like the MSI GT627 deserves a mention. While it doesn't pack quite the punch as the Sager, it is far superior to an N81 and is actually light, thin, and has good battery life.
-
I currently have a Dell Inspiron 4150 (yes, really old but still working well while on power cord). It weighs in about 5.8 lbs based on the specs listed. So I don't want to go over that too far.
I'm hoping post-October 22 that something good appears on the market. -
You can't go wrong with the NP8662, I think you sacrifice way too much by going to the 14'' in terms of performance.

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
But it would be cool to have a gaming thin and light. Problem is the small chassis. Sager NP8662 & ASUS G51 FTW!
-
Yeah, throw in the Asus G51 in there too. You can get the BestBuy versions about $500 cheaper than the Sager, but CPU is a little lacking.
-
and the Asus runs the 260m gtx underclocked. =)
-
Yeah the Asus gets an underclocked 260M GTX but still packs quite a punch. It beats out my 9800M GTS in anything I have played so far.
Being to finally play crysis on High settings without having constant low fps is nice
Best graphics for size/weight in 14 and 15 inch class
