The best of the worst, so to speak. I need to know where all the modern integrated graphics chipsets stand in terms of performance. Looking for a notebook for the girlfriend :D

9400m is the best integrated card at the moment, it's closest ATi competitor is the HD3200 which is also a solid card for an integrated solution.

Only problem is outside the Macbooks and a couple models from Dell, I don't think there are any other notebooks with the 9400M yet. The Radeon HD 3200 is very prevalent though if you don't mind the AMD CPU since they don't have as good battery life or as much capability per clock cycle, but there are some damn good values out their for AMD Turion based machines.

The problem with the HD 3200 is that it only comes with ATI CPU's, correct?

    AV1611 out...

The HD 3200 is an AMD solution. I have it on my HP tz2500. What are the future computing needs that warrant a powerful IGP?

Tossup between the 9400m and HD3200. I'd choose based on price, and also if one has faster system RAM than the other since it shares system RAM. Like, go for DDR2800 at least, or DDR3 if you can. That will help memory performance. Both of those GPUs overclock a good deal (I know the HD3200 is 55nm, and goes up to 700mhz in desktops, but I don't recommend that for lappys)

In my opinion the 9400m is the best right now.

    Nvidia ION.

It should be surfacing in a few more weeks, I know the LenovoS12 will be the first netbook to feature it. I think it's definitely worth the wait to see how this performs before you dive in....if you can wait.

Let me give you a advice and you might wanna consider this..

Go with the Mobile intel 5series express chipset H55/H57 respectively...As, these are larabee chipsets from intel with integrated GPU and CPU together for better performance and over 3 times faster over previous generation and also with support for Dx 11 and windows 7....

Laptop with such chipsets are expected to be released by 4th quater this year...So, if you can hold on for a while would be better as this card would be way better then any nvidia or ati integrated solution. Since for first time intel isn't rebranding but inded releasing a entire new GPU technology based on 55nm or 40nm......For this even companys like Nvidia and ATI are waiting to see the benchmark...In terms of integrated cards and not the MXM cards..

Its up to you to decide what you want in terms of best integration card.

    Good luck
