By mounting you mean a virtual cd drive? I like to use magic iso.

I always found the other two more user friendly. Plus, if you need to burn it to a disk those two are better as well

And: Alcohol 51% and Daemon tools lite are free

I use Alcohol 52%...it's free if you don't mind an advert tool bar (I do mind any type of tool bar so I paid for it) and not being able to burn images back to discs...

I didn't know about Magic ISO, and the big advantage of Alcohol over Daemon Tools was command line access for me...I tried it with Daemon Tools and could never figure it out...very easy with Alcohol...

Now, my game shortcuts fire up the Alcohol engine (AxCmd.exe) and mount the iso and then load the game...all my installed games just require a quick double-click of the mouse to launch...no mess...no fuss...easier than a console...

I use Virtual CloneDrive. It works, and I haven't had any problems. I know I had some issues getting others working in Vista 64bit when I chose it, but I don't know if that's an issue anymore.

i used Daemon tools for a long time, but then it stopped working for windows 7, 64 bit. i use Virtual CloneDrive also and no probs at all. integrates with explorer so you can right-click an iso file, and has list of previous mounts.

    I like virtual clone drive.

I used to use alcohol but it was lacking in features and when I uninstalled it, windows still thought the drive was there and it was a pain in the getting it to go away.

ok cheers, i do actually prefer Virtual CloneDrive for reasons given.
i see people on Deamon forum recommending Virtual CloneDrive anyway.
also i never used the (rather suspect) cd protection simulator of Daemon Tools anyway

I switched to VCD once DT started bundling all the crapware and adding paid versions, no complaints yet either.

I've always used Deamon Tools lite, it's free, works flawlessly for me.

They all do the same job just as good as each other imo.

    Daemon Tools Lite user here.
But if I come across a smaller, more efficient program, then I will of course switch to that.

I really don't like it when people start bundling in a lot of useless bloatware into what used to be a light/efficient program.
The new versions are likely just as good (without the bloat installed of course), but I do prefer a program that is great at 1 thing only ... unless a bundled type of programs other features are just as good/usable (in which case, other software isn't needed).

I've been using Daemon Tools since I first heard of the concept while on a XP machine, for me it's just a simple matter of updating old versions every few months to make sure everything continues to work on my current Vista machine.

I've used all three and for strictly mounting, I liked Daemon Tools Lite the best. It's been updated for Windows 7 recently, and it's lightweight and fast. Can't really get any better IMO. :)

Virtual CloneDrive for Vista/7 64 is tops for me. MagicDisc is crap and it BSOD'ed my desktop trying to uninstall it (known problem and managed to get rid of it though). Daemon Tools and Alcohol bundle adware and use SPTD which is proven to decrease performance in your disc drives (this may have been fixed with higher versions of SPTD, 1.62 me thinks).

You can choose not to install adware for Daemon Tools. It's also very fast and uses only 7 MB. I installed Oblivion with it earlier and it went much faster than other programs I've used. Though W7 might have helped there.

Yeah I know you can choose not to but what's the point of bundling toolbars or random stuff like that? I'm sure a donation would go over well with many people. I'm not a Christian but I think there's some Bible verse that says "Ask and ye shall receive, Ye Have Not, Because Ye Ask Not."

What is SPTD? You said it causes slowdowns, though like I said, I don't see any.
