Notebook CPU's are generally not overclock-able. The clock frequencies and multipliers are usually locked. If it were possible, you would be able to do it from the BIOS, so there would be no need for a utility.

Well, I don't know about Intel processors, but my AMD Turion X2 is overclockable (I use ClockGen). The Multipier is locked of course, but the Bus Speed is overclockable.

thanks Steven.. i ll try it out...till how much did u OC your bus?

with my t7200 i could get from 2ghz to 2.25 ghz very stable, thanks to minikisskool
----> btw using clockgen aswell

It looks like you've got the same processor as me (AMD TL-56). So once you have downloaded ClockGen, set your laptop to "High Performance" and run ClockGen. Go into "PLL Setup", tick "Ignore GSB/PCI" and select "ICS 951416" (which is the PLL I use, so I assume it should work for your TL-56). From the main menu press "Clocks" and "PLL Control", and then press "Read Clocks" in the "PLL Setup" window. The clock speeds shown in the windows should be similar within a few mhz. The clock readings in the "Clocks" window of ClockGen is usually slightly high. CPU-Z gives more accurate readings, and should show more or less exactly the same clocks as in the "PLL Control" window of ClockGen. To increase the clock speed, go into "PLL Control" and use the slider to increase the clock speed in small increments of 10-20mhz, press "Apply Selection" and check
The memory controller on the AMD Turion TL-56 underclocks 333mhz DDR2 ram (667 effective as it is Double Data Rate)to 300mhz. ClockGen overclocks the RAM with the FSB, so basically I just put the RAM speed back to 333mhz, which put the FSB upto 222mhz (from 200mhz). The TL-56 has a multiplier of 9, so 9 x 222mhz = 1998mhz.
This is a thread I posted on this site, which you may find useful. There are links that show someone has overclocked the TL-56 upto 2.3ghz, and an article on Tomshardware that shows the TL-56 underclocks 667 DDR RAM. I used wPrime's stablility and performance tests to check the speed and stablility, which gets the same results as the 2ghz Turion x2 (TL-60) in the wPrime performance benchmarks in the notebookreview forums. Use HWMonitor to keep an eye on temperatures. From my experience, the TL-56 seems perfectly happy at 2ghz, though I haven't pushed it any further.
Best overclocking utility for CPU?
