Okay, I want to get max performance with no chance of something bad happening.
Do I need to download drivers? If so, which ones? Do I need to uninstall the old ones first?
Should I slightly overclock it? This is a Dell, and I hear that they underclock their computers by a lot. If I did a slight OC would there be any chance of something being fried?
Overvolt?
Thanks for all of y'alls help.

I overclocked my dell with the ati tool, updated the drivers and did the find max core. My OC is at 510/300
-
WHere do I update drivers?
-
Hey Tokuman,
Check out www.omegadrivers.net & you should be set. Just make sure to read all directions thoroughly & completely uninstall your current drivers beforehand.

what kind of benchmark scores are you getting on the OC?
-
-
heh I often confuse it at a glance also
-
just thought I would update you guys, with Omega drivers OC'd to 540/440 im running 3dmark05 at 2123
-
Aivyn, are you saying your getting above 2000 3D Mark score on a 9700? Im only getting 1880 with x1400 with omegas....man I wish I knew how to check GPU temp so I could overclock.
-
I have the Omega Drivers for my X1400, but I want to OC. I want different clock rates for being plugged in, and on battery.
Any help? -
Sorry Anim, i meant on my new X1400. Overclock your X1400 to what I did. you won't be sorry. -
Heres the thing, ATI Tray Tools (ATT) does not support overclocking of the x1400, it doesnt even tell you the frequency at which the core and memory are operating at. So if you want to overclokc you have to use a different application, such ast PowerStrip, which works okay for me. Heres the problem though. Once you overclock it, there is no way to test if it dangerous through artifact testing and such. ATT does not allow the artifact testing program to be even run becasue overclocking is not allowed. It wont even show you your GPU temperature! So there is no way to check for stability for ATT. I have been looking for a lot of places for an artifact tester or something for my GPU but have found none. I'm even looking for a small program that will be able to measure my GPU temp, btu to no avail. So I am left in this position where I am able to overclock, but not test its stability. Needless to say I dont overclock beacause of this. If someone knows of a GPU temp monitor and artifact test I would really appreciate it.

As i understand it you should be able to see the artifacting, it will appear grainy or as lines, there are separate indicators for each clock, ie memory and core. As long as you are not getting those or lockups (i can tell you that i am not) you will be fine.

Yes, I understand that, but I want a definitive test that will tell me that yes, I am aproaching a mid-dangerous level of overclocking. Also, overclocking will void my warranty. A question about that too...how does Dell know that you overclocked your GPU? Is there a recorder on your GPU of its maximum frequency or something. If I return my dell because, lets say the screen is broken and I had overclocked my GPU, but now it is back to normal, will they void my warranty. And when they say your warranty, does that mean everything, even accidental dammage for an LCD screen, which has nothing to do iwth the GPU.

Hi AnimCreed, i hope this helps. You can download ATI tray tools by Ray adams, with this you can check for artifact even if you have omega drivers insatlled or Dell ATI drivers. Power strip to OC your card and Ik8fanGUI to monitor your GPU temp. The only problem is you must load back your default clocks if you are gong to use powerplay after OC, if not it will hang when windows boot up on battery.

I can not even find the program for this one, Ik8fanGUI. Also I have heard that some people have had problems with this program, have you used it and have had any problems?
Best possible performace with x1400
