Currently I'm using driversweeper for uninstalling, CCleaner for registry cleaning, Ad-Aware for spy-/malware deletion and PerfectDisk 2008 to defrag my HD. I sometimes use smartclose for shutting down all services and optimizing my speed.

Still my system is getting slower.. I notice it when running a 3dmark or when playing certain games. They used to run smoother than they are now and I score around 250 less 3dmarks.

Are there any other good programs to optimize my system, that you can recommend? Any other tips maybe?

    Thx :)

Run HijackThis and manually disable programs (or note which ones to uninstall) that start up whenever you start up your system. I bet a lot of extra stuff loads that you don't always need running.

You might want to disable a lot of non-essential vista programs (google for that, I'm sure there are websites that discuss non-needed services, like for XP).

I recommend two things; scrap 3dmark as the only real bench is in game, and the best way to make your system all nice, fresh, and speedy is a clean install

I run Advanced Windows Care V2 Proffesional 2-3 times a week

CC Cleaner 2-5 times a week

iObit Smart Defrag 1-2 times a week

Kasper Sky Intnernet security i run 24/7

and default Windows XP clean progs 1 time a week.

DiskTrix ultimate defrag (owns all of yours)

Eset NOD32 antivirus (again, owns all your stuff)

Advanced system optomizer (cleans/defrags registry, gets rid of spyware, optimizes memory usage, uninstalls and recovers files, and removes useless files)

Unhack me (for anything ASO cannot get rid of, which is not a lot)

NOD32 AV, because it is the fastest AV scanner available, which does not slow down the system and is one of the best, too (together with kasperky or others)

Speedtrix Ultimate Defrag once every month, or sometimes only every two months.

CCleaner before each defrag (you don't make enough trash in a week to notice a speed difference, not even in a month, or do you install and uninstall every hour a program? And to clear the browser cache/history you can also optimize your browser)

And last but not least brain which runs 24/7.

And if you like free software and try often free software which you often uninstall immediately after you installed it then also use Virtual PC for this tasks, so you don't make your main OS crap.
I also deactivate the Swap file on machines which have enough RAM (≥3GB). But take care, it can also slow down your machine or cause BSOD.

My advice to everyone is to practice good computing habits and normal backups which allow you to easily and quickly reload your system.

I'm a one trick pony when it comes to computer issues...reload.

I use and like many of the above mentioned programs but I still find my system runs best after a fresh reload. I try to reload my systems 6-12 months.

My wife likes using her computer as she wishes (downloads 50 programs from God knows where) and I am constantly backing up her system and have things in order to reload it quickly when she screws it up beyond easy cleaning.
