NfS: MW is pretty sweet, but old. check out Burnout: Paradise if you want something new that's a lot of fun. if you're more into realism, Gran Tourismo 4 should do the trick.

Grid got voted as racing game/sim of the year (PC Gamer).

Recently released Burnout Paradise is supposedly quite good.

What kind of game PC or console as well? Arcade or Sim? Circuit racing, rally, street or various?
Some would say NFS MW is a good game, other DIRT,GRID or GTR. It depends of what you want from a racing game.

Grid has my vote if you are somewhat serious, (its not uber realistic like GT prologue, but has great graphics, allows more freedom in car slides). NFS MW if you want quick fun with lots of cops

    Yup agreed. :)
I only play on PC so check out NFS:MW, Burnout Paradise or Flatout if you like arcade racing (like me).
If you like simulation (not me, I hate sim :p) then go for DiRT or GRiD.

NFS MW or NFS U2 are my favorites.

NFS Undercover however, is really boring...

GRID and Burnout Paradise are very good games in my opinion.

I have always liked the Gran Turismo series, however, they are not the most fun games if that is what you are looking for.

Flatout 2 or ultimate carnage (basicly same game but uc got pimped up looks)!
Burnout Paradise is also really good, super cool if you hook up to projector or big screeen and sit really close!

grid is horrible. I still can't win 1 race because its so hard to control the car. So far, Burnout Paradise is pretty good.

    This is what i say

For realistic challeging (at time frustrating ;)) races:
    GRiD

For racing but fun and with cops:
    NFS Most Wanted Hands Down
One of the great games :D :D
Also check out underground 2, but no cops in this

For a crazy high speed adrenaline rush that you get addicted to ;):
    Burnout paradise

    Hope this helps

man, I played GTR2, it`s an excellent simulator, and there is the possibility to put A LOT OF mods for it, new cars and tracks, it's a good game, same with Rfactor.

Some new games I`m going to play soon, but I think GRID and Test Drive Unlimited are good games too, funny games.

For sim racing: GTR Evolution. Extremely solid, reasonable system requirements, incredibly realistic (not as realistic as iRacing, but not as expensive either), and just generally a whole lot of fun if you're a gearhead. If you're going to be playing with a keyboard, though, just skip this. It'll be painful.

For open world racing: Burnout Paradise. Lots of fun and well optimized for the PC, unlike several other recent console ports I could name. Plenty of content so you'll be busy for a while.

For "arcade"ish gameplay: GRID. Looks gorgeous (you'll need a decent system, though) and has tons to do. I'm not a fan of the driving model and keep instinctively comparing it to PGR4, but it certainly has enough fans to merit a recommendation.

GRID ain't a sim. Not by a long shot. The cars are real, the tracks are real, but the physics are geared toward PGR fans more than anything. It's great for what it is, but if someone wants a sim and buys GRID they're going to be sorely disappointed.

Richard Burns Rally. Not for the faint at heart but an amazing sim especially if you have a Logtech G25 :)

I like GTR2 better than RFactor.

If youre after a racing sim get GTR... or GTR2. ;) you'll probably need a wheel to get the most out of it though. Its definately the most realistic racer ive played.. if a little frustrating when you get a bit too much tire wear and have to retire on lap 55 of your 60 lap race...

ive heard good things about grid though..

Grid is a fun game once you get a hold of controlling the vehicles. But, if you are expecting a racing simulation out of Grid, you'll be disappointed. I got GTR Evolution and enjoyed that as well.

That's actually pretty insulting, grid has more realistic car handling than most racing sims, the handling is very on par with real vehicles. And don't compare it to PGR which is more an arcade style game with bad handling on all cars. ALL cars on PGR suffer from extreme understeer, it's just a bad game. In games like GRID, the object isn't to get first, like real racing, you can never expect to just win, just try to finish the track. If your getting first place every time, bump up the difficulty to extreme.

@unknown, which racing sim exactly is less realistic than grid
ive played trd3, its predecessor, which i've heard is much more realistic, and it was still miles away from gtr(too much traction, all cars felt light), so based on that and some of the 'drifting" videos Ive seen online i'm gonna say its like playing forza 2 with all driving aids on
grid is a good looking game with cool crashes but it is far from any simbin title or live for speed

NFS UG/MW (somewhat) are worthy to mention.

    all other NFS = crap.

This is what everyone has been saying, the cars feel too light, and I'm guessing that by this they mean that the cars slide out too easily, but 99.9999% of the people complaining about this have obviously NEVER been in cars with that much power, hitting the gas full throttle, and never using the brakes. Well I have news for you people, you can't do that in a real supercar, or one with severely uneven power distribution, like a muscle car. What exactly do you expect a car to do when you go 160MPH, and force a sharp turn? with, or without the brakes? Most traffic accidents on freeways happen because some one lost traction switching lanes, or making a turn going 60-70mph, and yet you somehow expect perfect traction out of a car going 3x this speed? Maybe you should stick to driving 35mph if your having trouble with good throttle control and can't handle the car, but I have never had a problem with my cars sliding out, or losing traction unintentionally in the game yet, every car does exactly what I expect out of it.

And I am a fan of driving sims, I've got nearly every car in all of the gran tourismo games made, played alot of GTR2 and toca race driver, and honestly find that GRiD is more realistic than all of those.
