Hi, I always wonder what software to only display fps (no need for recording) with lowest performance hit ? Most of websites only compare performance for recording, but my interests is only to display fps with lowest fps loss, i have no need to record any video.

    - Fraps ? ( really bad with performance when recording but what about the performance without recording, only to display fps  )
    - MSI afterburner with rivatuner ? (My favorite one is afterburner since it displays not only fps, but also usage and temp but the software seems to be complex with OC bundle so i wonder will it lead to performance loss. )
    - Dxtory ? ( seems to be alright but not sure the performance without recording compared to others )
    - Shadowplay ( not support laptop cpu so not my choice for now :( )

Please tell me about your experience.

    Thanks a lot,

All of those are fine as long as you're not recording, but even then, ShadowPlay and MSI Afterburner (with NVENC plugin) record with only a 5% cost. They don't have any performance penalty when displaying frame rate and other statistics.

shadowplay works on the 780m as i have recorded vids with it. though i prefer just to go with either MSI AB / Precision X + RTSS because it is free - Fraps and DXtory have demo versions but if you want to use all features then you gotta pay and I don't wanna do that.

I use playclaw 5 for my displays, but I check a lot of info other than just FPS.

Ignoring the low fps (that was 8k res) my overlay I set to look like this

That being said, displaying FPS usually has no performance hit... and if it did, you'd never know unless a game had built-in FPS counters to cross-check. Playclaw's free version has all the FPS/util displaying benefits (except the TS3 plugin) at full functionality. Recording and screenshotting gives watermarks, but you don't need to worry about that.

It does work, but you have to add "[space]-shadowplay" (without quotes) to the end of the GeForce Experience shortcut target box. Then, whenever you click on the the GFE shortcut, it will automatically launch ShadowPlay. You may want to create a duplicate GFE shortcut and dedicate it only to ShadowPlay.

The refresh interval has no impact on performance.

if you use shadowplay there isn't any noticable drop in fps as it's many GPU doing the recording. using MSI AB, Fraps, DXtory will always drop your fps because it's using the CPU to process the recording. depending on the game the difference might not be worth getting worked up over.

No performance difference. Don't worry, be happy.

My personal preference is Afterburner + RTSS + HWiNFO64. AB for recording, RTSS + HWiNFO64 for OSD. You can see an example of what statistics I have in my OSD here.

Using NVENC plugin in AB to record is the exact same thing as ShadowPlay.

though fraps and dxtory i know will drop your FPS so they're not really representative of what your pc can do!
