For a "very low monthly fee" you can now enjoy your "private world". Which is basically same thing as regular public server, just scaled to 8 players and you control who can join it. It is still hosted by Bethesda and you still cannot use mods. Basically you are paying monthly fee for a co-op experience which you get for free when you buy games like Division 2 or Destiny 2, or Borderlands games ;-)
And for people who just want to build custom base (the custom bases are unnecessary since you can craft and repair everything and access your storage at public locations in Fallout 76), remember you can do this as much as you want with less limitations in Fallout 4, which has no monthly fees.
Also, if anyone might remember Bethesda did not want to give unlimited storage space even for crafting components because it supposedly affected server performance. Well, now they do, but ONLY if you are paying a sub fee. The unlimited crafting component storage works on all servers, even public ones.
" The Survival Tent and Scrapbox can be used in both public and private worlds by Fallout 1stmembers"
They are so desperate for more money they don't care about server performance anymore if you are willing to pay monthly fee.

There is a lot of merit to what you say. I'm not a big fan of online games. And I certainly am not happy with the quality of maintenance Bethesda has been putting into the game. The Power Armor bug alone was extremely frustrating. Then again, when you have a one-time cost for the game, the only way of making money for reinvestment is to raise the cost of the game.
The subscription service model heralded by service companies like Apple seems to be the unfortunate way of the future. Nickel/dime users to death. I'm all about companies making money if I feel the cost is justified for what I receive in return. Called supply side economics. -
killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
Beth already showed the level of their greed with paid mods few years ago.

The service model is not because it is needed to cover costs and make a profit, it is so they can make more profit by selling you the same thing over and over.

The service model is because they know nobody will be buying Fallout 76 anymore so they just want to squeeze maximum amount of money from remaining players before shutting it down. This is why they do not care anymore what other gamers or journalists will think about this. There is a high chance that they will shut it down before the next major content patch, which was delayed until next year and which is most likely not even being developed right now.

hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
There is still plenty of room in the biscut tin for them to go lower by means of charging per running of the Executable. But i totally hate them fo what they have done now and i feel sorry for the people whom have bought the subscription service to the Non Private Servers and the bugs that are tied to the storage system etc.

Bethesda released Fallout 76 far too early - without spending the time to populate the game with NPC's. I won't be interested in Fallout 76 until it brings back the NPC's that made the Fallout games so great in the first place.
Bethesda screwed up again and put the "server" before the "service" and continue to mix up their developer priorities:
Fallout 76 Wastelanders Delayed to Q1 2020, But Private Worlds Are Coming Next Week

If Fallout 76 hadn't been released before it was ready Bethesda would have another winner instead of the disaster they've made.
If the NPC's are any good, there's a chance I might even get into the game when it's finally "ready".Last edited: Oct 26, 2019 -

Fallout 76 Subscription for a private online server...that isn't persistent, and that's the new model?
Why is Fallout 76's New $100 Subscription Getting So Much HATE?

The hits keep coming with Fallout 76 and Bethesda. Here's the newest thing introduced that it seems gamers and Fallout fans aren't happy with.

Clearly they learned how to be greedy because of EA and decided to take it to a new level. Also Wolfenstein:Youngblood was a huge failure as well.

Bethesda finally beat every other gaming company in terms of levels of greed
