Hey there,
Been lurking around these forums for a bit trying to decide what laptop to get for college. I was looking at some of the 15.4" offerings but didn't like the performance of the x1600. Do you think companies will put anything better than the x1600 in a laptop any time soon?
Thanks,

I think there was a Sager with a 6800. Whether the 6800 is better than the X1600 is debatable though since the 6800 has better performance but produces more heat and consumes more power than the X1600. As I have not seen an X1600 in action, I really can't comment much on performance. I believe Chazman can give you better info on this and the Sager.

I have 4700 in 05 with X1600. With GF6800 on previous Dell I got 4400 so the answer should be easy.

Hey Guys
Just to clarify, I'm talking about in the near future will they ever put like a 7800 or 7900 in a 15.4" laptop? To me that would be the ultimate portable gaming laptop. Smaller in size and weight than a 17" but just as powerful. All i'd have to worry about is battery life.
Thanks

The X1600 and the Go7600 are very powerful cards; nothing else more powerful than them is going to be found in a 15.4"; you'll have to move up to a 17" to get a Go7800/7900. Have to make a compromise somewhere.

As has already been said.. there are no real offernings in 15.4 laptops with better than x1600/7600 gpu's.. But the new 17 inch Toshiba (satellite P100) is an excellent offering as it is barely heavier than average 15.4 inch laptops weighing in at 3.5kgs and is EXTREMELY thin and light. It offers the Geforce 7900GS and an AMAZING screen! The only laptop to come close in performance is the DELL XPS which is FAR heavier and thicker and hundreds more in price! The Toshiba also has the cool neon lights under the speakers and has GREAT Harman Kardon speakers...
Better gpu than x1600 in a 15.4"
