Not planning on too much gaming, more hd movie streaming/playing. Is the Intel GMA 4500 a better graphics card than the ATI Radeon 4100 or vice versa or are they pretty much the same?

its the ATI 4200 and yes it is better... but anyways don't expect to play any new games at more than 800X600 res and super low details... u need a dedicated Graphics card to play on higher details..

    Assuming we're talking about the HD4 200...

The HD4200 kicks the GMA4500HD's butt. Even the HD3200(the HD4200's predecessor) was twice as powerful as the GMA4500HD so the HD4200 should be even better.

To add on to that, GMA4500HD can do next to nothing, so even though the 4200 is better, it doesn't win by much. With an extra $50 or so you can get a dedicated graphics card.

If gaming isn't his priority/use, then he'll be fine with an integrated GPU.
