Hey so I just bought Dead Space and Fallout 3.

I'm very impressed how they run on a "mid-range" computer like my new Macbook Pro with the 9600M GT DDR3 at native res 1440x900 everything maxed out.

It's actually very peculiar how, say Crysis, was so poorly optimized, and I actually saw it on a desktop, full details, 1920x1200 res, everything up, and it doesn't even come close to Dead Space, in my view. Graphically wise.

It could be just me, but I think in some ways, even Mass Effect with everything up looks better than Crysis.

So the question is, since Crysis is 2007, did the developers do a better job, or are they getting better at optimizing games in '08, and even more important, will we see even more awesome games in 09 and years to come?

    Just some rant.. :D

Unless the video game industry will come to a total halt, there is no reason for more awesome games to stop coming out.

Well, I believe that most people will be buying laptops instead of desktops in general, not for gaming purposes exclusively. I have read that Portability is becoming a very big issue in the laptop industry and considering that most people arent very tech wise they will buy budget easy machines.
For those reasons I believe that games will become better optimized before they become more graphic intensive, the producers want to appeal to a wider range of customers.
What I was expecting is that games are going to have a wider selection of options for every game, from Ultra High for graphic gaming enthusiastics to Ultra low so people could play on Eee PC's and the sort. But we will see...
