Hrm... well, I don't have any other ideas. I'd be curious as well, as my gaming desktop is vista 64. I wouldn't mind buying this game on Steam, but I'd rather get it on the 360 as platformers are much better with a controller IMO.

Just a guess, but see if DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is enabled.
If it is, you probably need to add an exception for the game's .exe.
That caused me to crash when I played it.

Also, looks like the gaming gods smile upon us...

Yeah I've heard rumlings on forums here and there about rumors of a sequel. Loving this game, played it non-stop yesterday but I have to clean for guests ,then right back to my rescue mission. :)

For those having trouble getting the game running, refer to Jalf's post about DEP (post #52). Also refer to the middle of my original post (#1), where I have added several sections about fixing game issues.

For instance, in the settingsapplication.exe (refer to first post), try disabling or tweaking all of your manual compatibility settings, and also try changing processor affinity.

    AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    :D :D :D :D :D :D

I am so glad you liked it The Forerunner!!

YAY! I got above a 3.5 GPA this year! And it's all because Beyond Good & Evil was released on Steam! Now I can apply to become an astronaut and cure the world's energy needs with my mini fusion powerplant.

(I feel very empowered by these recent events).

Congrats StormE! Not taking any summer course this time so I can relax. Though I should be looking for a job to fill my time.

Fusion huh? Nuclear is only our clear solution for energy demands.

How long is the game about? So I get a bearing on how much is left.

It is very short for its adventure style. I'd say it took me 12ish hours to do absolutely everything in the game. The longest (most difficult parts) are usually the stealth ones for me. I think I had to redo factory areas a few times to get it done.

If you spent all day yesterday you are more than half done.

I felt like it was fairly long. Where are you now? Can tell you roughly how much is left then.

Yeah, you are at least 1/2 through by this point.

Gosh I can't remember, maybe it took me 20 hours or so to finish, I just enjoyed it so much that it seemed really short.

I had it on PC and did not like the controls. Any tips? A mod maybe?

Or do you really need to buy a gamepad?

After playing the Xbox Version (pretty strong control scheme, I like the xbox controller), I found the PC version to have even better controls. I don't know why, maybe they redid them in the Steam version? You can redo the control scheme yourself if you want using the built in settingsapplication.exe.

thanks for the help...but i'm still having the same issue. It seems that the game crashes earlier when in windows xp compatibility mode than when it's left as is. I'll try some last resorts...

GOOD NEWS: Finally got the game to work on VISTA

Solution for Nvidia users or anyone using software to configure their graphics card:

SET the program to allow the application to choose the settings

    Special Thanks to Storm!

    Enjoy!

I'd honestly dump the gamepad, but I actually like the PC controls more than my XBOX controls for some reason. Otherwise, something like XPADDER might help you out.

Is it possible to use the keybinder in the settingsapplication.exe to apply gamepad input? You could try that.

    Good luck.

I just got this game on Steam 2 days ago, and WOW! I really cannot believe that I didn't play this game when it came out. I'm loving it now, but I almost wish I hadn't played it because now the wait for BGE2 will be 10 times worse!

I don't know how much of the game I have left, but I'm on the part where I have to uncover the spaceship to go to the Moon

Seriously, if you haven't played this game yet, $10 is a steal. I feel like I'm ripping Ubisoft off.

    YAY! Congratulations!

It really is great, and you don't have much gameplay left, get ready for the BG&E2 wait!

Cannot wait! BG&E2! does anyone know whether it'll run better on a mobility 2600xt 512 or an 8600 gt 256? or should I wait till the new Ati mobility 3800 series comes out?
